Favorite Porsche ad line
What's your favorite line from Porsche ads (especially CraigsList ads)?
While the common "911 2-door" always gets me, that's usually just dealers following some format. My favorite private party line is "ready for restoration." Is there anything less meaningful you could say about any older used car?

Yeah, the dealers often say "won't last long" -- that really doesn't appeal to me.

A few tonight from autotrader.com:
"Rare Wolfsburg [sic] edition" (Does it have a Volkswagen engine, too?) "Assembled in Germany" (Not one of those inferior Mexican Porsches, then) "959 Speedster Replica" (ever seen the original 959 Speedsters? well this one is just like those) "wail [sic] tail" (so sad) "The speedometer does work, therefore telling you how fast you are going accurately." (thanks for the 411 on what a speedometer is for) "1981 Porsche Carrera Coupe - factory Carrera conversion. Body Style: convertible" (???) "NEW WIPERS" (I don't care about engine or trans rebuilds - have the wipers been replaced???) ... Cheers d. |

There's a 911 for sale locally at a dealership that really should know better (the owner is a bit of a P-car enthusiast, I believe): "1969 911, factory wide body". WTF? (it's got a 930 body kit or something on it)

travelin' telefunken?
About a year ago I jumped on an Akron newspaper ad which read:
" '72 911S, some upgrades, EC, $15K.... " ______________________________________ The owner-seller genuinely did not know 911's, but he did know the previous owner changed the seats and wheels to 1990's style. When I arrived I found a miserable, soul-crushing, irretrievable hatchet-job of a 964 'conversion', including drivetrain, brakes, hood, bumpers, interior, even the steering wheel and dashboard. Yes, a '72S had laid down its life to create this monstrosity. Original engine/trans & other parts had long since been sold off or discarded; literally the only '72S component remaining was a portion of the tub.... all of it capped off with a $199. Earl Scheib-caliber paint job. (2) tragically funny quotes from the owner:

Good point.
When only the descriptor "porsche" is used in a Craigslist headline, it turns out to be 944. 924, 931 or 914; never a 911, at least in Southern California. The ads saying "1957 Porsche" almost always turn out to be a fiberglass Speedster replica with a VW VIN. Oh, with the occasional surprise: '57 Porsche And the occasional Varrera: http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sgv/cto/1642437225.html
