Whoever build that would have been better off lighting cigars with $100 bills.

I just threw up in my mouth a little bit. I can certainly think of better ways to ruin a longhood...

Ugly huh? I have almost the same car. Mine is an '86 Carrera Targa with the exact same body kit, front fenders, wing, etc. My interior was white (including the white gauges), black, and bright blue leather. Very 80's/Miami Vice. I got mine dirt cheap though and it runs great (Euro P&C, cam, exhaust, chipped, etc.). Starting with something like this though can be liberating because it is already dog ugly and you can't make it any worse. So... mine is going through a transformation into a god-awful rough and raw rat rod. Still ugly, just more of my kind of ugly.

What's a "Celeberties"? Isn't that an island of the coast of Spain?

Unfortunately, it's a sad story. I got it from someone who knows the history. Nice lady had this (no longer in business) shop on the west side of Los Angeles create the car at horrific expense, and apparently cutting some very documentable corners. She had grounds to sue them but declined to do so. Cost her a ton of money (she didn't have a high paying job and was certainly not a 'celebrity') and I guess she never go to enjoy it. I'm not sure she ever received a proper title.
A year ago, I sold a car for an elderly gentleman -- it had also come from this particular shop -- and it was a Frankenstein's monster under the shiny paint. Appeared to have been the result of three cars being stitched together. Similar story. The buyer was attracted to the surface appearance and trusted the shop. These are some of the reasons I advise people on Porsches. The waters are (or were, since most of the bad actors around here are gone) infested with sharks.

Hmmm.
It's already at eleven grand. Getting a little rich for a restoration project but sometimes I think starting with one of these body kit cars might be easier than starting with one that is a wreck or is rusty. That is provided it wasn't wrecked or rusty before it got the body kit.
I read a few years ago in a British Porsche magazine how Freisinger Motorsports found a 73 RS underneath a cheesy 80's body kit. I have been eyeing something similar to this. A popular model 911 with an awful body kit on it (albeit the stock interior) that is being sold for considerably under market. Sorry, can't give you any more info than that but I think it might be worthwhile to buy it and return it to stock configuration. Not to get too of topic either but how many years from now will we be looking at backdated impact bumper cars and wonder what people were thinking? Andy. |

Well, that's been my secret for a while. Easily-reversed modifications are off-putting to the casual buyer.
At $5-6K the car was a no-brainer. At $11K with a 3.0 engine, it's less attractive. Front sheet metal will cost $1200 or so to "right-date" the car.* The quarters will set you back $4K. Rear bumpers $600 or so. And you need an engine lid ($400?) Then it's time to paint, and you might not want purple metallic. Unless you're a Prince fan. Not that there's anything wrong with that! * this is assuming the front bulkhead panel wasn't removed for the short hood. If it was, you need to buy and install one for another $1500 or so.
