Makes me wonder what the red 964 targa will bring next weekend. It is mileage except but showing 11k. Doesn't look like the hood fits perfectly on it either.

Auctions are a real crap shoot. And this proves that these are not yet, if they ever will be in our lifetimes, collectible cars.

Prices like this depress me as I should have waited, found this, and then bid on it. $8900 is a smoking deal either way you put it. Should have waited and bought a running car...

B-J No Reserve is a huge risk. Taking this car to Hot August Nights, where Porsches are non-existent, seems like a pretty dumb move on the seller's part. Clearly not the right venue. Car looks like it was a steal.

Unfortunately there was no real way to know this car was going to trade at such a depressed price. Statistically it’s an outlier and should not be considered when you are pricing the market. There is a coupe which is going off at Mecum this weekend I bet it will do lot better.

Had anyone on this forum been in the right place at the right time that car would have traded at a higher price. We also don’t know who the winner was and how much they know about the market in these cars. They may have been willing to slug it out with another bidder to a price much closer to the market.

I am also wondering how this 993 GT2 will sell for at Gooding. It seems like only factory porsche people are the only ones that have driving the car.

Oldest trick in the auction playbook is to buy the car the crowd doesn't want -- like a Porsche at a hot rod/domestic auction. Or a hot rod at an exotic car auction... I've seen great bargains in that context (as this car appears to be). But if the people who were there opened the hood and found wrinkles in the tub from a poor collision repair, or heard a rod knock when it ran, $8900 might be all the money.

Mac, say its not so... Shill bidding, buying your own car and other dirty tricks at BJ Auctions? I am shocked with their squeaky clean reputation they would allow that, just shocked !

THIS...every American V-8 Muscle Car dingbat in there probably rolled their eyes when it rolled across the block and said... "Look! Its one of them hot rod Volkswagens"

Then some smart guy got a steal, right place for buyer wrong place for seller
