What should I be aware of?

I have posted this in the Boxster and Cayman forum, but am posting here as well, hope that's OK?

I am in the process of sourcing a Boxster S transmission G86/20 for a project.

I have seen prices from used parts companies in the $2,000 range and pricing from rebuilders of $7,000.

I realize that a completely rebuilt unit with upgrades and all will be worth more, however, is there a "buyer beware" attitude about purchasing a used transmission from a reputable firm?

I have seen a 2001 unit available that has been sitting in the car for two years, they claim it shifts fine (with car stationary) and transmission fluid is clean, but sitting there for two years, is there anything I should be aware of?

The car was hit in the front and did not appear to be that bad from the photos? It has under 60,000 miles on it, if the information being provided is accurate.

Any input is appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike
