If it is as nice as you say, but just has high miles and won't stay running,
then I would do a compression and leak down on it.

If that checks out OK, I think you could ask $18k for it and not feel bad since it is a '87 with G50. Take the first $16K that is offered, but you shouldn't go any lower unless there are other details that come up which devalue the car.

This gets the family out from under it and passes it along to somebody who still has room to put a little "love, care, and cash" into it without being too far upside down.

Another thing that will drive value is if it has had any engine work. Top end, etc...

If you sat on it and marketed it right you could get more given the current hype, but I bet all parties would be happy and be getting a good deal in the $16k-$18k range.
