80-84 High Bolster Sport Seats Values

Hello all,

What would be a fair, not over the top price for a newly redone pair of 80-84 sport seats (high bolster) in leather w/perforations ?

Thanks in advance for your help !

Color black.

I just bought a pair that need redoing which I am going to put in my 911. The reason for the post was that once I pay to have them redone & if for what ever reason I don't like them I would then sell them with hopes of getting all of my money back.

I am trying to get an idea of their worth once redone as it is quite an expensive endeavor.

Sorry for any confusion.

My prediction: you will NOT 'not like' them. I'd say market value $11-1200 for a freshly redone set. If they were an unusual color, possibly a couple hundred more.

sport seats

I agree with techweenie. I have seen very few re-done correctly. It can be done, but it is costly, and you will not get all your money back (unless you are connected to the right upholsterer). The correct leather and piping is difficult for many upholsterers to handle, and slip on covers will not look, feel, or last the same as the correct leather. It the same with BMW e30 sport seats, they are hard to re-do correctly.

Donīt get me wrong, it is well worth the money to get them done correctly but, imho, you shouldnīt expect to get your $$$ back should you decide to sell them.

I am looking for a set of 74-80 sport seats in brown, and have decided it would be easier to buy the car, take the seats out and resell the car with standard seats.

Well, I now have a pit in my stomach as I wasn't expecting to get the last bit of info. I don't mind paying but I want it to be perfect like out of the factory.

So do you think it would be wiser to get someone to reupholster and not buy a kit ? I was told that some of the kits are quite good but IMHO I wouldn't know as I have never been down this path before.

I am now going to possibly reconsider my first plan & maybe sell the seats that I bought but only after I find a perfect set in black.

Thanks for the help Pelicans, def need a pint now !

Aircool is right about the recovering -- even very experienced upholsterers fall short of the factory work. Just cruise eBay and look at the photos of redone seats. If you are particular about 'perfect like out of the factory,' then you want low-wear factory original seats.

The above advice is spot on. A proper restoration with the correct leather (or nice originals) is the only way to go. I have no idea who can do this, but I bet it's expensive. Note how the below does not fit correctly or match the original interior. Even though newly recovered and perfectly usable, I would consider them cores for a proper restoration.

I have personally been on this journey and aside from the upholstery challenge and expense I found the seats to be VERY annoying in a daily driver. The bolsters are too high and hard for easy entry/exit and they wear fast. I took mine out after only a few Weeks and got $1200 for them. I now love the stock seats more than ever :0)

well I think sport seats are terrific, but everyone is correct to have them done correctly is about $2500 and the 80-84 version aren't worth that much when re-done

Phil, please define what you mean by "done correctly". For example, are you including the cost of a leather kit?

And FWIW, I think we seldom do anything to our cars that is truly "worth it".
