Good deal on a '78 SC?
I thought this looked like a pretty good deal for a non-sunroof car:
1978 Porsche 911 SC - Non-Sunroof Coupe Thoughts? Might need a warm-up regulator but that isn't too terrible. I'm local and I'd be happy to check it out if someone is interested. There's no room in my garage otherwise I'd consider it. If this belongs in the 'for sale' section I can put it there but as I'm not the one selling it that didn't seem quite right. Still, wanted to pass on what seemed like a deal. Erik

Is it inappropriate to put it in the For Sale section? Might get more exposure there.

yes0 it has been 32 min and you have two replys-
do a ppi on the car- if it checks out it is a good deal. if it needs an engine rebuild than $25K wouldn't be the best deal. |

so long as the head studs are good and the tranny isn't toast == that is a great deal.
Not a huge red fan, but it is very clean and tidy all around.

Is it really that great a deal?
I've seen similar mileage 84-86 3.2's go for 19k So, it seems an appropriate discount for a 1970s SC |

It is priced for a quick sale and is a good deal. Very nice looking car.

Yeah, you might find a nugget out there, but 3.2s in that price range need stuff. Maybe a lot of stuff. |

Its a Euro car, Clearly looked after by an enthusiast. Look at the overall condition of the car. Attention to detail, clean motor, very good interior, tool roll (missing a couple of things but almost complete and again in good condition), The interior is in VGC, very clean but not armor Alled out, period correct radio, and then look at whats parked in the garage behind it. How the owner is tells you so much about a car. its cold start problem sounds minor Euro WUR is different to the US spec part. its a question of sourcing the correct part. Re paint is unfortunate but still wouldn't put me off. Genuine 'bargain' 911's are few and far between. From the info available here this looks like one. If I hadn't just bought a Euro SC i'd be on my way to MN now with cash. Check the paperwork, check the oil, ghetto head stud check, long test drive and if that checked out I'd be driving home in a high HP euro car thats seemingly been looked after with rare Sunroof delete and new rubber for under 16k ... If it has complete history its an absolute no brainer. If you are seeing verifiable 80k mile Carrera's for sale for $19k in this market in condition equal to this car, then the owner is completely out of touch, or the car needs major mechanical work with a minimum DIY of 3k. I would suspect the latter. |

Its a ROW car so if it has a Speedo that reads in MPH then unless there is paperwork to prove the miles then assume the miles are not actual. When they swapped the speedo who knows how many KMH's it had on it?

Thanks for the feedback, interesting to hear different opinions though it seems the majority think it's a good deal. I think it's really fairly priced and definitely on the low end. I paid half this for my '86 but the engine and tranny were out and I got boxes of parts instead of a car I could drive home. My car is now on the road and a blast to drive but to get it in the same condition as this one would cost at least what he's asking so I figured it was fair. Somebody should go get it!

I saw this car parked on the street here in Rochester. Very nice looking car. Not perfect but he's only asking $15.5K. The decklid is from a 3.0 Carrera. I'd be interested in the story behind that and what the real miles are. Might need a call seeing how its right here in town.
The speedster in the garage is a replica that he had for sale back in the early fall.

Pass on replicas...hehehe...unless rs clone. Sure the car is not a Carrera 3.0? that would be a REAL good price for it...

And that doesn't address any mechanical issues the car might have. I'm just talking about returning the car to stock form. So, let's imagine you get the car for $18k. Now think $21k, more or less, and you've got a stockish red 3.2 with 137k on the clock. And you have no idea even at that point what the mechanical needs are. $19k for good examples of 3.2 cars are few and far between. And let's not compare Targas to coupes. Targas still have market issues compared to like-year coupes. |

I know pushingmyluck will disagree but I think it's very difficult to find a good condition, mostly stock, non-red-black-silver 3.2 coupe for less than 25k. |

Very good deal. Nn sunroof and euro. My spider sense tells me the owner had the right dna, all stock, very clean interior, no bs upgrades but does have meaningful and very expensive upgrades (tires and i think i can see carrera chain tensioners). Very very good deal.
