924 gt

Hi all,
I am interested in selling my Left Hand Drive 924 GT (type 937) Chassis # 308 of the 406 made. Silver 137,000km, not a concourse car but a great drive none the less.
I purchased it about two years ago and brought it to Australia from Japan where it had unfortunately been "modified" i.e. stripped interior, bolt in alloy roll cage (copy of a period Mater unit) racing seats, side skirts (yuck) not sure why anyone would have done that but?
I have been able to return the interior to original Porsche sports seats and re trimmed it in the correct red and black pinstripe material. I have fitted new R spec Toyo tyres, Koni sports front struts etc, etc.
Still needs paint and some small plastic welding to fill bolt holes from the skirts.
I am not sure just how saleable the car is in the US as I don't remember them ever being offered there, back in the day that is.
I am selling it to finish funding my other project which is a replica 1980 911 Group IV rally car.
Looking for advice and comments on how much interest it might get over there.
Would like to get somewhere around $40k

Are you trying to sell the car in the states specifically?

There are only 7 that I know of in the US at the moment. Mine and one other here in Metro Detroit; two up in the Pacific Northwest; one in LA area; one in Omaha; and one that sold in early 2013 down in FL (don't know where it is now). The Omaha car has a custom black and red paint job; the FL car is silver; and the rest are Guards Red.

The FL car had ~50K miles and appeared to be in excellent condition, pretty much all original as far as I was able to discern from the eBay ad.

My car had 42K miles on it when I acquired it in 2010. It is now close to 50K miles. Like the silver FL car, mine is an all-original example, including a near mint interior, as well as the paint, which has a lot of chips and cracks on the poly-urethane front clip. The paint on mine also suffers from some sun damage, but shines real nice with a couple of serious buff-and-wax sessions each warm season.

It's hard to say what these cars are really worth. The silver FL car sold for a whopping $52K, which surprised the h*** out of me. But there are a couple of German collectors who are snapping up every 924 with any originality and bringing them back to Germany...wouldn't surprise me if the silver FL car is no longer in the states.

A year ago, I would have thought that $40K was a bit optimistic. But after the price on that FL car, I'm not so sure! In my opinion, the fact that your car is NOT guards red is a distinct advantage, as the silver and black examples were far less numerous. On the other hand, the lack of original interior and some of the previous owner mods might degrade the value a little. Still, the interior restoration appears to be top notch from your photos, so I suppose it really comes down to whether the new owner cares about concours or simply owning a piece of history.

I'll be very keen to see how your efforts to sell progress. Please keep us updated!
