Are prices dipping down as winter approaches?

I've seen some nice 915/3.2's list for very low 20s lately.

I saw a nice under 100k miles 1986 Targa go for $19k

I've seen an '88 G50 list for $23k. 125k miles.

80k miles for $21k
1986 911 Targa

116k miles for $21k

After summer peaks, do prices dip like this each year?

It's weird, but prices seem to only move on the hype this board projects. 911 prices have been steady for 20 years plus. I bought a 77 in the early 90s for 14k....they're worth that now.

Yep...I did have an older 912 with a 911 S engine...unfortunately I didn't know, or care, what I had at that time. Once, I was buying a fully restored 74, took it to the shop where it was restored for a chat. Next day, went to finalize...car was gone. Went to shop...car was there....

Only problem is that in 2002 you could have advertised that car for $8k and had it sit for months without a phone call. You car wasn't worth that much all the way through.

Similar to stock trading I guess. No panic buying, or selling and you're fine.
No problem...

I've seen 915 Carreras below 20k all summer. I don't think they are slipping. If we start to see G50 cars sliding below that mark I will recognize a slump. But seasonal fluctuations should be expected, especially when we get into the holiday season. Most people shift their focus away from personal hobbies and toward family responsibilities. Not to mention the fact that in my part of the country you can't stand to put your car onto the salty roads!

I don't think those two cars are indicative of anything.

The red one appears to have been tracked extensively, with Corbeau seats, a glass dash, stripped out A/C and heat, etc. It is being sold by a dealer, and he probably has zilch for records or maintenance history -- a particular red flag for a car that has been tracked.

The blue car has decent looking paint (from a distance), but ugly aftermarket wheels, and a generally trashed interior. The targa top looks tired, too. It looks like a project to me.

[Ya. and if you bought a 72 911S instead you would be putting $50K in your pocket right now.

I really think that the concept of "market price" is only a guideline for these cars which are now 30+ years old. For an SC, prices range from 12K for one that is shabby and will need "everything" to the very nice low mileage examples offered at $35K or more by Brett Sloan or other top - line sellers.

I'm currently offering a very nice '81 SC that has "everything rebuilt" including engine, suspension, trans, interior etc. Paint is fair. It's a deal at $20K

On that excellence website there's an 87 with low miles offered at 55K - prices are all over the map. But the condition and maintenance history of the car in question, and what the prospective buyer is willing to pay, is a far greater determinant of price than it might be for other, more pedestrian cars.

That is a pretty nice looking car, and a very good price if it is mechanically sound.

The big question is mechanical condition, and the ad makes no mention of any work on the engine or transmission. Does it have the carrera tensioner upgrade?

146k is a lot of miles on an engine that has never been opened.

If it has had a topend rebuild, transmission refresh, and tensioner upgrade -- and the headstuds are sound -- it is a smoking deal. If not, you are $7-10k away from a $25k car, which means it is priced about right.

Bargains are out there, but finding a needle in a haystack is not indicative of overall trends.

Meantime, a 1972 911T with thrown rod and engine completely disassembled brought $23000 yesterday on eBay. I haven't seen prices going down at all. I'd like to though.

trend for quality rust free is up. Guess i am not the only one that snoozed on the 1972, desirable rust free CA car, original engine with work, consider it a good buy, congrats to the buyer.

I don't see how 20,000 is a reflection of a change in pricing for 100,000+ mile 915 3.2s.

+1

$21k for 1986 with 116k miles - This ad is 26 days old

$21,500 for 1985 with 128k miles (coupe) - This ad is 3 months old

$20k for 1986 with 169k miles (coupe) - This ad is 1 month old

Who knows if they are still for sale... Also this proves prices haven't changed since summer time. Prices aren't going down. They're either staying the same or going up.
