Great looking C2 - personally I would not mind a tip. I mainly drive in the city.

Why does everyone trash cars with Tiptronics? I suspect most people who frown at these cars have never driven one, let alone properly. These are great cars that can be picked up very reasonably. We have three other manual 911's used for Sport, and one Tiptronic. Guess which one gets driven more? If we hadn't just purchased our last Cab, I would buy this car.

The only real downside I see to the tips is long term service on them. I get calls 1-2 a week asking about rebuilding a Tip. Parts are virtually impossible to get from Porsche and there is really only one place in the whole country that properly services them.
But most owners only have to go through that once during ownership. It is a robust and durable gearbox and plenty fun to drive if one isn't left pedal obsessed.

Maybe a lot of people are not paying attention to maintenance, or using the best fluid. Cleanliness is vital. We do regular filter and fluid flush in all of our cars and I have never had an ATM problem with any of our personal vehicles including the one that tows our 10,000 lb trailer. I have used Swepco 20 wt ATF in these for years and have never seen a failure, as long as someone has not run out of fluid due to a leak

I'm surprised to hear that a Tiptronic driving man was capable of impregnating a woman.

I didn't say anything about a high failure rate. What I said is that when it comes time to service it, it will be expensive and not a terribly simple process. These are cars that are going to be in the 150K mi range in the coming years. Everything has a wear life. If driven, people will wear out their tiptronics, and as I indicated I get a couple of calls a week for people looking to service them. Considering I get 10 calls a day regarding manuals, I would suggest that there is not "a lot of people" when it comes to my point. But it is a long term consideration is someone wants to own one of these cars.

Easy - nobody's trashing Tiptronic. This is a marketplace discussion forum and we're discussing the marketplace. You said yourself that Tip cars can be picked up "very reasonably" which to me means a discount to a manual car. Which was exactly the point of my post.

Cheers

Been wondering how much of an effort it would be to drop a manual in there. Anyone try this?

Based on Mclovin's hilarious comment, that would be like a sex change operation putting the balls back in, haha. Must be tough, but probably worth it.

Bleek,
It has been done but is not cost effective. The cost of the conversion is 2-3 times the cost differential between a manual and a tip. Unless you find a car with a blown tip that is being dumped instead of repaired it would never be worth doing.
