What does a decent 964 C4 driver go for?

Hello I am considering a 964 C4 for my next car. In the past, it seemed like C4s went for a bit less than C2s. How about these days? Is that still the case? What is the going rate for an early one with the bugs worked out? For a 92-93? I like the C4 idea for wet weather / semi-daily use. Please disabuse me of this notion if I'm misguided in thinking a C4 would be markedly better for that. Thank You

Prices have climbed in the last 36 mos

Particularly w/r/t the vintage you are looking for. There are still some bargains ($18 - $25K) but they seem to be exceptions not the rule and are generally cars sold through word of mouth. Most of the listings I have seen start in the vicinity of $28K with many getting to $40K (particularly '92-'94 C2s). The average seems to be somewhere between $30-$35 with most well sorted examples being sold within hours after being posted. Rennlist has a pretty active 964 board with a chart of sales prices IIRC. You should be able to find it with a search if you want to get reasonably current information. Three years ago you could get a '91 C4 w <95K miles for under $20K having no head gasket leaks. These same cars are now selling for closer to $30k. I paid under $25K for my car with <32K miles on it. I wouldn't be able to buy the car today. You might want to consider '89s if you want a C4. They've tended not to sell as fast - probably due to the stigma of the head gasket leaks. However, over the last year even these haven't lasted long on the market

Love my 964. Mine is not a daily driver, but makes the weekends more special. Get one one now and sort it before car/parts prices volcano more. Make sure you lower it, nothing worse than the big front bumper looking like it will tip the car forward over the front axle. Com

 What Comintern said

Love mine as well. It's a blast to drive and a completely different driving experience than my middie.

3 years ago, mid teens. Now low 20s for a driver. Not that there are a ton trading, but my guess is the C4 is averaging 5% less.

Low $20K for a C4 driver 6sp coupe? I rarely if ever see them offered in that range now unless they are really high mileage. Are you basing this on private sales that you know of? Thanks.

Yes. And my interpretation of a 'driver' is high mileage and/or a little rough around the edges. Just did a deal on a C2 Targa last week at $23.X -- a very above average car. It was a Tip, but I see less difference between Tip and manual in the real world than there used to be. Last year I brokered a '93 C4 coupe in the high teens. I don't personally know the condition of any C4s on the market. This one is available locally, but I know nothing about it: http://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/cto/4439963951.html

If you can find a clean 964 C4 for low 20's, any mileage, better jump. Anything nice under $30k is quickly being seen a "deal", with the minty C2 examples now reaching 40k+ As a new 964 owner I've been following their prices with interest. Budget $25-30k for a sorted, but imperfect driver. Prices are rising by the day, so that number could change very quickly. Cabs and tips definitely sit longer, with 5spd coupes and targas selling within hours of the initial post. I'll be shocked if that blue coupe hasn't sold in the next day. Between Pelican and Rennlist I've seen half a dozen "WTB 964" ad's in the last month alone. I think the Singer 911 products and his high praise for the 964 platform is a big part of its newfound popularity. Should be interesting to see just how high they go.. When I was shopping, I saw at least four different C2s for under $15k. And they all looked pretty darned nice to me. eBay bidding on similar cars was in the $10-12k region. Now, if the car is under $30k and it looks and runs good, you should buy it.

Pretty much every beater 964 coupe is being purchased by Singer and others in Europe for backdates. Someone told me Singer had over 20 964's in storage waiting to be chopped.

Singer only uses C2's right? Thanks all for the replies.

I sold one a while ago on ebay for $18k, went to Sweden, did require some work to fix oil leaks but in today's market it would have been worth it to fix it. Phil
