Well, you see, they aren't making them anymore, so
That Forest Green/tan is pretty sweet though. Not half-a-milly sweet, but a beautiful and unique combo. |

It's the beginning of a new trend in sales negotiations. Here's a 550 REPLICA listed for a mere $5.2 million.
The negotiation tactic comes to light in the first sentences of the ad copy... "$5.2 Million is what collectors would expect to pay for a peace of racing history like this. Yes, we would love to sell it for $Millions, but we know that's not going to happen. However, if you're a Spyder enthusiast and would like to own this stunning and accurate Hand made Spyder Clone. We are now accepting reasonable offers." WTF?

That's a lot of Turbo S on the market all at once. You get the feeling the 993 Turbo market has peaked and sellers are cashing out.

There are 43 993 Turbo's currently on eBay. Prices are all over the map. All of the one's in the OP have been repeatedly re-listed for months. Not a great time to be selling a TT.

Meanwhile, back in reality...
Nice 38k-mile TT, topped at $121k in the first genuine no-reserve I've seen in a while that wasn't closed prematurely. (Granted, started at $119k.) Last edited by Skwerl; 09-15-2015 at 07:24 AM.. |

Yes, reality is starting to set in.....also look how many 930 turbos are out there for sale at prices highly speculated. The market is starting to speak....as I have speculated recently, it will be interesting to see how long dealers speculate on these prices and keep the cars on their lots.
With these numbers we are experiencing more supply than demand. |

I'm curious how dealers' books work. It seems like it would be in their best interest to sell at a lower (market correct) price and move inventory rather than wait on a sucker for months, who may never come at all. It's a lot of dollars to be tied up.

I agree that's a much more realistic price - but the bid history seems odd. Only two different bidders on a no-reserve TT? That says a lot right there about demand. And the last minute bidder let him/herself get beat out by $100 with still 5+ minutes to go? Seems weird.

There would have certainly been more bids if it had started lower.
Also, not that this auction is necessarily the bellwether of the whole market, but part of the beginning of price deflation is smart buyers waiting for prices to settle or drop further. Seems reasonable given that, like you said, there are 43 for sale at the moment, and that's just eBay. Last edited by Skwerl; 09-15-2015 at 08:52 AM.. |
