Barn Find: 1965 911 # 300294

1965 911 FOUND in Louisville, KY. Chassis #300294 has recently been brought out of storage where it has been parked for over 40 years. The car was last driven in 1975, which is verified by the license plate. The current owner remembers parking it in 1975, when he was trying to identify an oil leak. The owner, who had a new family and lacked mechanical knowledge to repair the car, was forced to park the car and never got back to it- leaving the car in hiding until now.

I have been commissioned by the family to sell this car. I will have the Porsche COA back in a couple weeks. Here is the key information at this point:

• Chassis number 294 is confirmed by the stamping in the front tub, beside the original aluminum chassis plate.
• The door jamb plate shows chassis number with the original paint code of Ivory White.
• The car has an engine number and transmission number that are in line with other known 1965 cars before and after chassis number 294, so I cannot verify those conclusively until I get the COA.
• The car should have a middle January production date and all wheels including spare are chrome with 11/64 date code.
• The early car features are: wipers parking on right, right side washer fill, four screw front vents, and multi screw secured dashboard.

This car will be for sale, but the offering price cannot be fully established until the COA comes back from Porsche with all options disclosed. I just wanted to post this press release on Pelican Marketplace first, since it’s one of my favorite forums.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or comments. I love talking Porsche and will answer any and all questions here on this forum or by email.

I have made a complete inventory of the car’s parts and their condition, and can give more details of this amazing find to interested parties.

Special thanks to Logan LeGrand who has done an amazing job photographing this car. We have taken over 500 hundred photos at this point.

That car was parked because of a oil leak? I guess the owner didn't know that was a normal issue!

I'd like to see pics from the barn.

Part of the story is the barn. Kind of like it when something has been left 'as is' for decades. Un-touched, only time has stood by.

Some members ask for pictures. I'm the guy who asks where the quesiton about market value is? Reads like an ad to me. I'm all for a dude digging out a barn find and sharing it, but we've just been prepped for a car that appears to be a brokered sale. Is this a search for presale offers? After all, there's a phone number there to call.

Yeah, and that Logan LeGrand part made me laugh. Who is Logan LeGrand? I searched him and he actually looks like Magnus.

And really, a COA is needed for pricing?

It's useful. Plus it extends the foreplay.

The original post is definitely 100% ad.

I'm just wondering if the 500 plus pictures include close-ups of the pond-scum covered components. Speaking of which, I wonder if all the accumulated filth (to include vast poundages of insect, rodent and reptilian feces, buttofcourse) come with the car? And if so, does that help or hurt value (after all, there are some folks that call "patina" a plus)?

Drop box being prepared...

I see now... parked up next to that wall , it looks like its in the bottom of a lake...

Logan (photographer) is setting up the link for the drop box with probably around 120 photos with all the good and all the bad. A very nice gentleman called me today and was kind enough to pull the Kardex info tomorrow to confirm the engine and trans identification, etc. Feel free to ask questions on photos...

After the link to the photos gets posted, please chime in as to value as that is why I posted it here. I have an idea based on COA matching driveline, but you guys have a wealth of knowledge and I welcome your input. I will definetly price the car accordingly based on the results of Kardex/COA.

I will be happy to move car to the appropriate For Sale section once price is established.

Thanks,
Mike W

Who knows what it is worth.

This car will probably see a couple of dealer flips before it ends up at Bonhams or RM.

If you can afford the risk, take it there yourself and roll the dice.

I would do that as well. I am sure you guys saw what kind of money those cars received at the ArtCurial Baillon Collection. Those cars looked like they were dredged from the same pond.

I would put it at auction as well. Summer is almost here, and the market is still hot. Put it to the auctions.

Maybe more serious comments later, but for now if that 50K offer falls through, please give me a call.

Mike,

you mention you have been "commissioned by the family" -- so are you a licensed auto dealer who is selling this car as a broker on commission, or are you a "friend of the family" who happens to know Porsches pretty well, and are doing them a favor because they trust you? Maybe for an informal fee or percentage?

How much fiduciary responsibility do you have here?

I don't ask that to be insulting -- just curious. Because you are likely getting FLOODED with PMs from brokers & flippers that are desperate to take this off your hands quietly.

Presumably, that was part of the intent of the original post -- to stir up interest, and to get a sense of what the offers look like -- not to get informative commentary from the folks on here.

I doubt you will get many really informed opinions on this board -- because the people who really know their stuff (not talking about myself at all) understand the absolute uncertainty with trying to put a value on a car like the one you are "helping sell."

If you do this for a living like Wayne Carini, I expect you know what you are doing, and are talking to the right people to help the family make the right decisions. If not, I hope you are getting a wide range of opinions -- other than from the Interwebz and dudes like Richard Rawlings.

GLWTS. It sounds like a cool car with a neat story.
