A lot are under restoration now and will start hitting the big auctions in the Spring. Now that long hood coupes can crack $100,000 there are lots of quicky resto's happening. It's the same thing that happened with 356's about 5 years ago, the good cars never see the light of day until they are full market.

I've never done business with John Small, I've met him and his son Chris, nice guys. They invited me out to look at their collection but I kind of live by the code that flippers can't buy from flippers, it just never really works.

I know a lot of people have complained about trying to do business with him but then a lot of people complained about doing business with Max Hoffman, so it may just be he likes to deal with certain people or do things a certain way. If you are curious about what I mean look up the Seinfeld episode with the Soup Nazi. He had the best soup but you had to do everything just right. One thing I run into with people in this business is there is a certain brand of Porsche guy who sees anyone in the business in the same light he sees his valet at the country club, the "I can treat you however I want and money will solve everything." Guys like that find out at Unobtanium that there money is no good and we don't eat shiznit sandwiches from anybody, these guys can't understand why we won't sell them something, they have cash money. I explain that I have money too, and I have self respect, and dignity, and some days business sucks, but I still have the last two. So going back to John, my guess would be had has a chip on his shoulder about Porsche guys, so if you are walking into a deal with him you should probably think like you are getting soup, and you might leave with a Porsche. ---Adam

I definitely see as many coupes for sale - but gotta be willing to pay and +1 on the SoCal resto shops probably having more than their share of projects in process from the recent boom

My advice to guys looking for a good car is get active with your local club and tell all your new friends what you are looking for, it will come up, and when it does and you can buy it, you know have a group of cool Porsche friends to share it with, the best cars never leave small groups and never hit the open market. I know of a Speedster that has spent it's whole life within a 10 mile radius outside of Philly, it's on it's 5th owner but not once has it been advertised for sale.

That was a good read (seriously - not being sarcastic . . . for once!), and I think you are my kind of peoples (other than the "slow cars are cool" bit of yours! ). If I was interested in buying a motorized ("motorized" used VERY loosely here!), soap box derby car, you sound like a good option!^^^ Bigtime ***forum dating***, right Phatt?!?! Yeah- I meant to jump in on the love fest too. Adam, you are a guy that is in the business and spends time here and other enthusiasts P-car forums to provide personal input (not that kind Ronns); that means a lot.... I like what you you said about choosing to sell to the right people....

I would do business with a guy like you (and TW, MM and others here) in a heartbeat over the in and out posters in the cars for sale section..... (so ya got a LH/LWB tub for a brother...lol) MattR
