A lightwieght flywheel on a stock 4 cyl. 914 is a waste of time. In fact, you'll find it frustrating on a street engine.
Additionally, only the 6 spring version is available these days.

Yes, a vacuum leak CAN prevent a car from starting. L-Jetronic is pretty sensitive to vacuum leaks as well
Check/replace ALL hoses including the valve cover gaskets and also the oil filler cap.

Yep, probably just spilled oil. Whitish oil usually indicates that water was around. If the car is running good, I wouldnt worry about it too much.
