I have same fan, hold down the light button and it will fade to off. Touch it quickly and the light comes on, if you continue to hold it down it will go from bright to dim..... I love having it...

Yes, If the starter ring is missing teeth then you will have to drop engine. This is the hardest , cheap fix on the car!! The ring is not much but the labor is hrs...I did mine last yr and went ahead...
