wire placement on ignition switch

I've got a minor problem. I recently removed the wire harness off the back of the ignition in my 86 944. I removed the backing of the wire harness, and all the wires came out of the plastic harness. I put them back in, but don't know where exactly where they go. The car runs, but I'm not sure if all the wires are attached to the correct pin. Does anyone know where I can find the wiring diagram?

Download all these. They cover all 924S, 944, 944S and 944 Turbo models. You'll find your answer in Volume 4.

i'd say you're pretty close if not right on the money.

one is a ground, one hot, which'll get you started. do accessories work with the key in the 1st position?

bearone,

no, the problem I'm having is with the acc selection. The radio doesn't work, and I can't get the sunroof lift to retract to remove the sunroof. Any help is appreciated.

the problem is that I downloaded a technical manual, but I don't know if what I have is correct. The other problem is that I can't make heads or tails of what the wiring diagram means. The wires aren't color coded on the schematic (at least what I understand of it.

Help!!

I'll bet if you look real close (use a magnifying glass if necessary) at the plastic harness connector the wires fell out of, each pin/hole will be numbered. The numbers are usually pressed into the plastic connector. Look at the connector at the other end of the wire and you'll probably find each of those pins numbered also. Match up the numbers wire by wire.

Thanks...I looked at the connector. These are the connectors: 50, X, P, R, 30, and 15. The wires I have are a solid red, a red with a black stripe, a small black with a yellow stripe, a gray, and a small red with a black stripe. The wire colors don't come up on the schematic, so I can't figure out where they really go.

The problem really is not with starting the car, that's fine, it's the acc position on the ignition. you need the key in that position to retract the sunroof lift in order to remove the sunroof. Since I'm not that well versed in schematic reading, I need help determining what goes where.

Sorry my answer didn't help as much as I hoped. I've rewired several switches/connectors that way. Did you look at the connector on the other end of the wire? (The end that did NOT fall out) Does that connector have markings also? Can you match up the "50" on one connector to a "50" on the other? If so, are there X, P, R, 30, and 15 markings that can be matched up. Alternately, look on the other side of each of the connectors for other markings that could be matched up.

Heres the info you need.
And the wire colors:
I think if I remember correctly that the number in the wire designation is the size in mm? of the wire itself (not the insulation).

Hope this helps

You are correct aufenbahn. The number is cross sectional area of the wire in square millimeters.
