Anyone Recommend a Mid-Rise Scissors Lift?

Does anyone have any experience with buying a mid-rise lift (also called a scissors lift)? From what I read on-line, they're portable, lift about 48", can go in a garage with a low ceiling, and cost between $1000 and $2500. Any recommendations or wave-offs? Thanks. --Rob

Souk has a Harbor Freight one. Dont knock it cause its cheap because its built like a brick sh-- house and I feel extremely comfortable working under it. IMO these lifts are money well spent.

Mid-Rise Lift

I just ordered one from Garage Equipment in CA. After searching around they seemed to have the best price. $1,425. including delivery. If you want lift gate delivery to your home add $135.
At least to NJ where I am. 2 - 3 week delivery. Can't wait.
Decided to get one after reading several threads on this site.

I paid $1400 for a BendPak MD6xp(?) delivered, found online at Garage Equipment Supply (?).

I cannot imagine life w/out it now!

I also have the BendPak from Garage Eq. Beware of the following errors on their web-ads:
1. They claim a ground clearence of "4"'. I have 4.5" ground clearance in front of my '86, so I thought I was home free! WRONG!! The locking device sticks up 6"!!! Hence the wooden ramps you see in the pics members have posted of their lift/car. The ramps need to be moved to maximize access after the car is up, so I built mine in three interlocking sections to make moving them easier.
2. They claim 48" lift, I measure mine at 44" max! (and no, I', not low on fluid, you can hear one hyd cyl "bang" when it bottoms-out, and the lift/car combo rocks slightly at the same time.!!
Other than the aforementioned "quirks", for a standard 8' ceiling, it's the only way to go! Wish I'da bought one 30 years ago!!! ('cept I didn't even know such a thing existed till I saw one on THIS WEBSITE! Pelicans Rule!! PCA drools!!

I'd recommend the BendPak, too. World of difference in repairs. Fits the 911 nicely, too, since there is not a lot of access to the bellypan with the scissor lift, but there isn't much too work on in the bellypan, either.

Thanks guys. I had searched for "mid-height lift" but apparently it was far too specific; should've just searched for "lift."

Seigel, no need to apologize. The search is a PITA anyway. The other day I searched for something using 2 words with a connector and got nothing. So, I used one word, waded thru a *****load of threads to find one I could read and there was my 2nd word right in the text.

AFAIK, there are 2 ways to use multiple words:

bent+crank and bent AND crank

I use the 1st form all the time and it works, but yesterday I used only "crank" after striking out and found the post about bent, which is what I was after. So, if that's as good as it gets, don't be ashamed and don't apologize.

Any reason not to go with an Eagle full lift? They have models that fit a 8ft height garage. Get a bit more lift with better undercarriage access.

Can you tell me the lift or pick up points on the underside of the 911?
Thinking of building a lift so need to get the design sorted.Probably would recess into floor to avoid the ramps.
Thanks,
Manfred.

I have Eagle's version of the Harbor Frieght one. I like the lift , but Eagle was terrible to deal with, both on original delivery, and on customer service when my hydraulic pump went out.

Manfred, I do not have pics at this time of the points that I use but I will try to explain how I do it.

I place the front rubber lift pads under the area where the floor pan meets the front sheet metal or the rocker sheet metal near a weld seam. This is a partial corner type reinforced area and I have experienced no issues with it.

In the rear, I place the rubber block just forward of the rear sway bar mount as there is a weld joint and a formed curved area there that the rubber block nestles up against.

After reading what I just wrote, I doubt my description will be clear enough to you. If I get a chance tonight, I will post some pics of these spots with the car on the lift.

Lift points

Use a rubber block between the chassis and lift hard points

I lift at the two front X's in Bill's picture and just outboard of the arrow's of the "D" dimesion line (outboard of the weld seam).
