Pics of my Martini coloured 914-6, Tell me what you think?

After the excellent response I got at the track and online in the Pelican Parts race/autocross forum with my Gulf racing coloured 914 Pics of my Gulf Racing coloured 914, Tell me what you think..

I knew exactly what my next theme would be for when I returned to track racing at Atlantic Motorsport Park after cleaning up in Atlantic Canadian Solo II events for 15 years... Martini Racing colours!

While my Gulf car stayed very true to the original paint scheme (including not putting black outlines on the meatballs as talked about in the above post, even though I agree they would look better...) I couldn't come up with a paint scheme I liked or that matched the body lines of my new 914-6. So I combined design cues from the original RSR 911's (sans orange bumpers ) with a longtail 917 to get this:

Most pictures supplied by Spoon.org (Thanks Gord!) and Ryan-Hutchinson.com (Thanks Ryan!)

Which makes me the best looking car out there when going for a drive in the countryside with friends:

Funny, my 911 and other 914 lift the inside front but this one doesn't:

Must have something to do with all this weight in the middle:

Which is a good thing as I wouldn't want it lifting up going over this crest at turn 11 at AMP:

BTW does anybody else see another theme going on with my teeners of doing away with the front signal lights and making the B pillars look more X1/9 or Fiero-ish with a little bit of black tape :

I have yellow magnetic Momo decals made up for my 911 so maybe I should do up my 944 in Brumos colours next?

Whatta think?

Great color scheme and pix! Did you do it with the 'body wrap' style decals, or is it true paint? What engine are u running... 3.0 or 3.2? I am debating a similar design with my project, although will be more of the 908 style martini colors which will wrap around the front. If i can just finish all the little niggling details and get her on the road. Cranked her up this weekend for the first time in 6 months... sounds great with the megaphones and oil leak free!

I must say, I'm far more partial to the Gulf scheme than the Martini one. Then again, I may be a little prejudiced (see the link in my sig for why).

I just had decals done up at a local shop but I ended up putting them on trackside with no tools (like a heat gun) and while the doors/hood were easy but those 3D curves on the rear fenders caused all sorts of bubbles and wrinkles. You can see a couple of wrinkles on the top of the door here:

The engine is a 3.0 stroked to 3.2 and I also had megaphones on it but it didn't meet the db limit at the track so I had to put an old Bursch? system on it. My budget is blown for this year so a set of Phase 9's are out. Maybe I'll buy a set of cheap magnaflows until I can afford something better...

Dave, my wife was not too supportive of me buying yet another 914 so I considered painting the new one Gulf colours as well ...then making sure they were never together at the same time. I figured I could keep one in the shop and one in the garage, trailer, etc... for months before she ever found out

BTW I think I said this too you before... You need to get a big orange strip with the meatball attached put onto a magnetic backing and throw it on your Olympic Blue hood/trunk for Solo II events

Actually, I was thinking of a big orange arrow, like some of the 908/3 cars had.

Been thinking about that one for many years, now...
