NY / NJ / CT Spring Fun Run

Yes, It's that wonderful time of year again when our cars can finally come out into the sunshine and we can all gather for a brisk drive through the countryside follwoed by a wonderful German beer and meal.

Date:
sometime early June (a bit late I know - just trying to be realistic).
Let's start by saying Saturday, June 3rd

Location:
The usually: Palisades Pkwy Gas station parking lot just north of exit 5.

Route:
TBD: we could do the same as in prior years or change it up a bit.

Destination:
The same "gemudlisch" German restaurant near Mohonk Mt. & Lake Minnewaska.

Gentlemen (and ladies), start your discussions...

the 3rd is absolutely fine, although the 4th is defineately out. Actually I might not be able to do the 3rd, since our house will be featured on an historic house tour, and I'm sure th honey-do list will be overwhelmed.

still, we want to do this again, and this year, we can each drive, if I can squeeze our son's car seat into the '78 targa.

oh, the following week I'm gone all week, returning saturday morning, so that sunday would work, june 11

oliver, if you're up for a drive anytime, let me know.

You guys might want to stop at the Greenwich Concours on your way north, if the June 3 date sticks.

Ahhh..good point! I KNEW there was a conflict of sorts.

As I recall, the drive is fairly early AM, then a lunch, and some more driving. The Greenwich concours isn't a huge one. I have spent 4 hours there and felt that i had seen it all, and then some, LOL.

So, see a double coming up.

Great! It looks like we have 6 so far.

(Jon - sorry if I jumped the gun by starting this. I lost your e-address was getting itchy with all this great weather.)

The idea of the Greenwich Concourse is a good one. It is in the opposite direction of our "traditional" route. If we go with the concourse, it will likely be a much longer event as I'm sure we'll get stuck there admiring all the eye candy. I'm sure we could find a few twisties to get us there.

The advantage of the Brauhause is that we have a final destination where we swap stories and talk mods in a German atmosphere. Most people head home afterwards though a few have taken the rest of the day to further explore the great mountain roads in that immediate area.

To me, one is more a "Polished Parade", the other more a "Drive 'em like they were meant to be driven" run.

Your thoughts?...

I would do the drive just as you normally do and let those who want to attend the Concours do that in their own way. Parking there is a b^$ch, LOL

Te hours are 10 -5 each day, with Saterday as Sonnet pointed out being the American day, and Sunday being completely different car..european. Judging awards are presented Peble Beach style each day at 3 - 5PM. In past years they have made a point to have some vintage boats there as well, as the event is located on part of the LI Sound in Greenwich Harbor. $20 per adult per day, $30 for both days. I got there at 3 one year and they didn't bother charging. It's a good event. I remember a guy who I think posts here had his 911 featured.

Oliver,

No stepping on toes here, I've been super busy, and really don't have too much spare time recently.

I think we should stick with the old route, or a variation of it, and end up at the Brauhaus. People are getting familiar with that run at this point, and I think it will draw a larger crowd given the area involved.

However, of course I'm open to anything new as well. I am happy to share the usual route, but unfortunately, I'm not able to invest as much time with the organization, which is why I'm glad Oliver is stepping up.

Adam is a gonner here I guess, as he sold his car a few months back. He is already missed as a motivating organizer.

We should cross post on rennlist and 944, etc. boards. I'll wait for the updates......By the way, once we get a ballpark count, I am able to arrange the lunch at the Mountain Brauhaus, so don't worry about that aspect.

Best,

OK,

I've cross posted this into the 944 boards, rennlist, etc..... I'm sure we'll pick up a load of cars as we did in the past.

I'll help make an executive decision and set the run date for Saturday, June 3rd. I see that many want to attend the Long Island meet as well, and have posted that they plan on attending this event on June 3rd, so June 3rd it is. Our first Saturday event, should be less traffic anyhow.

Best,
