Tennessee Cars and Coffee - gaging interest

Hello all,

Some of you in our area know I organize a monthly get together called the MTFR (Mid TN Fun Run). This event is a lot of fun, but I am wanting to do something in addition to this now. I know groups in Florida, Colorado, California, etc typically have a day set each month for a Cars and Coffee get together. Unlike our MTFR, this is pretty much a non-driving event other than getting there. I would like to see it beyond Porsche even. Maybe there is such a beast already here and I have just missed it... if so, please clue me in. Otherwise, I propose a monthly meet set on every "whatever" Saturday morning of each month. Where to have is another good question. Nashville is a nice choice, but then you get somewhat limited to Nashville folks. Memphis is another nice choice, but again, limited to Memphis folks mostly. Or, you could have it somewhere in between, like Buffalo, or Jackson. Jackson, would be a decent choice in my opinion, not just because I live here mind you, but because we have plenty of places to meet. Location wise, we are 1:15 from east part of Memphis Metro (Bartlett), and maybe 2 hours from most parts of Nashville. Buffalo (I-40 exit 143) is about opposite of Jackson from Nashville and Memphis, but not a lot of choices of where to meet. If we said we were going to do this every 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th Saturday regardless of all else, people would know they could count on it. Again, I envision this as almost an impromptu car show, meaning we leave it open to all car entusiasts. I am open though to other's opinions on this, maybe make it only german cars, or only sports and special interest cars, etc, etc.

Well, if you are in the area, tell me what you think. The floor is open, but leave your comments in this thread so we can keep it all in one place from now on, and not clutter up tech type forums with this.

Thanks all,
Shane

This sounds like a good event to start.

Here's my thoughts:
  • Jackson sounds like a good location cuz it's centrally located.
  • I'm open to the Sat the group chooses....I have no-preference to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th...just pick one.
  • I would like to see it open to other cars. My 911 is undergoing its restoration but I'd attend in one of my other sport vehicles....open it up to all types not just German....otherwise the Boxster guys couldn't come with their Finnish rides.

Hey guys, here is a great way to try to kick this thing off. Mike Moody, president of Musicstadt PCA sent me this invite for a drive this weekend. If you have further questions, you can email him at mmoody@imperialgroup.com:

Next Saturday March 1st we will gather at the Cool Springs Starbucks at
8:30 AM and depart at 9:00 AM for Jim Watson's shop in Lewisburg (he
just reopened after the fire last year). After a short visit with Jim
we will then depart Lewisburg at 10:15 and drive to Tullahoma to visit
the Beechcraft Heritage Museum, eta 11:00 AM
http://www.beechcraftheritagemuseum.org/. Bart Lee has agreed to lead
us from Lewisburg to Tullahoma on a scenic route. This will be a
fabulous drive you will not want to miss.

This is an exceptional museum located next to the Tullahoma airport
where there will be many photo opportunities. After the visit you can
then return with the group or you can return on your own. Tullahoma has
many restaurants if you want to eat lunch before the trip back home.

This will be a great trip so tell your Porsche friends and family to
join us. And, of course you can meet us at either Jim's shop in
Lewisburg or at the museum in Tullahoma if you don't want to join the
group drive.

MTFR #12: Saturday, 3/29

Hello all,

It is that time again. MTFR (Mid TN Fun Run) #12 is upon us: this Saturday, 3/29/08. The current plan is to meet at 9:30am at the Golden Corral just South of the Cool Springs exit in Franklin? From there we can jump right onto I-65 South. If you are intersted in joining us, please shoot me an email as sometimes the plans can change slightly. After the drive, we will stop for lunch at Sonic or Logan's.

Thanks,
Shane
