Squirrel gets trapped in house... destruction ensues.

Friends of my parents spent the winter in Florida. They just got back yesterday, to find that a squirrel had fallen down their fireplace chimney, and couldn't get back out.

It tried to eat/dig its way to freedom, but failed.

Imagine coming home to this!

A friend of mine went out of town for the weekend. A bird fell down their chimney.

They said there was bird crap in every room in the house--including on every single bed.

The bird also managed to destroy all of the blinds on the south side of the house.

Poor critter. Did he ever escape. He was mighty frustrated trying to get to the other side of that window.

Too bad about the house.

Wow. That + the dead squirrel isn't fun to come home to. I'm surprised it didn't shred the couch too in search of food. Was there nothing in the pantry for it to survive on?

Yikes... if that squirrel had put all that gnawing energy in one place, he might have made it outta there.

Two words: chimney cap

I remember reading a story in Automobile years ago that David Davis had written regarding a racoon that had climbed into his Ferrari 328 GTS, while the targa top was removed in the garage. They put the top back on and had no idea the critter was inside--he chewed the wiring, dash and seats.

Yeah, it didn't make it. I guess it got into some stuff in the pantry and managed to stay alive for a couple of weeks. I haven't seen pics of the kitchen yet, but it's supposed to be a mess.

I think it ate too much "bad stuff" and managed to die as a result.

And we had 2 Golden Retrievers, so we know what the "gnawing" phase is all about... but we also had squirt-bottles with bitters in it that did a great job at stopping that when supplemented with rawhides.

When my folks had their house for sale, they were living elsewhere and only came back once a week or so to keep the grass mowed. Imagine their horror when they came home and found the upstairs completely trashed by a neighbor's dog who'd gotten in when the last realtor had left a door unlatched and the dog went upstairs, but was too afraid to come back down......for a week! The dog only survived because the toilet lids were up. But he made an unbelievable mess. The guilty realtor, who was the last one to leave a card behind, said "Prove it". My folks' homeowner's policy took care of it, but what a mess.

Friends of ours were on vacation. Their neighbors heard a loud noise in the middle of the night, but they went back to sleep. In the morning they noticed a broken window in our friend's house & they heard noises coming from inside. So they called the cops....

2 police officers entered the home to investigate. As they were going down a hallway, they encountered a very ticked-off buck deer. The deer charged the police, who desperately ran the other way. One dove behind a couch.

Eventually, they coaxed the deer back out through the window he came in through. The deer had been in the house for hours trying to find a way out. There was blood all over the house/furniture from the deer, who obviously cut himself on glass when he crashed through through the window. They had to get furniture reupholstered, carpet replaced, walls repainted & even hardwood floors replaced -- the deer had scratched them badly.

I wish I had been there with a camera to snap a photo of the 2 cops running away from the charging buck!

shutting the flue(sp) would have prevented the damage problem but the stink might still be there and would probably smoke the house out the first time they had a fire.

Growing up my neighbors had an in ground pool, left to Hawaii for 10 days. They came home to find a deer had fallen in to the pool and drown under the pool cover in 85 degree weather.
