I went to lock-up my car this afternoon only to find that the lock had no resistance. I could turn the key left or right in a full, complete circle. I can't lock or unlock the door.
I opened up the door panel and found a spiral spring laying loose in the bottom of the inside of the door (see below.) It's slightly larger than a silver dollar. I assume it's this piece that provides the resistance to the lock. Does anyone have a picture of how this piece might attach? ![]()

OK... so there are a couple older posts here that say I need to remove the door handle and tighten the screw on the end of the lock cylinder. That'll be my next move. But can anyone identify the above pictured part and tell me, at least, where it belongs?

Update: I removed the door handle, tightened the screw at the back of the lock, and reinstalled it. The key will now turn to the normal lock and unlock positions. Unfortunately, there's a new problem. Turning the key will only unlock the door once it's been locked by other means (the passenger door, manual knob, etc.) And even then, the unlock seems mechanical and not electrical. In other words, I don't hear the quick "snap" of the electrical unlocking mechanism. I only hear a lazy mechanical sound as I turn the key.
Anyone?
