Great pictures!
What would it take to wriggle a 72 911 with a later-model's motor into one of the VARA classes?

hey mark,
it was nice to meet you as well. had a good time watching the short wheel base cars run. the 914s were great too. i did get some seat time on sat. i was showing my friend the willow compound and all the tracks when i noticed that the new mile high horseshoe track was unlocked. heather and i did a slow parade style lap incase there were people on the track and realized that we were alone. i got to drive her new accord like shes never driven it. it was a blast. i think that i will hold the track record for a long time as that track is a motor cycle track only. it made my whole day! we should all get together soon and shoot the s#*t over a beer. joe |

Joe,
I finished second in calss and 5th overall. I lost one position from Saturday. My transmission was giving me some trouble. Main bearing carrier was coming apart quickly. But I managed to finish the race and the weekend. The trans in now in Phoenix with my mechainc getting re-done. I had a spare brought to the track just in case. It is a Aluminum 901 early transmission, with A, GA, KA, Q, V gearing and a locked rear end. I hace it as a spare now or I might sell it. It was just built Friday night, Saturday Morning and delivered to the track. The thing is spotless. I am not sure wether to keep it or sell it. You are lucky she likes the track (heather), definately a keeper. What about thursday night for some beer?

I think It would take alot of lying. I mean imagination. Those VARA races always look like a total blast though don't they. They have diversity in the field, good racing and of course great early 911s.

Jack, if oyu ran your car in the configuration it is in now, you might be able to run it in A and B production. (Mustangs and Vettes, Cobras, etc.)
You would be CPX or CPM. Otherwise you would have to go back to a norrow body car, 2.5 or smaller, No Coil overs (if you have them), 16X7 Maximum wheel size (most of us run 15X7). So you would have to pretty much start form scratch. But man would you have FUN.

I'd be happy to race with the Mustangs, Vettes and Cobras.

Mark, it was really great meeting you! Everyone says you're a great guy, and they're right. I'd really enjoy the chance to run with you guys.
Luckily I'm building that 2.5, so all I need are some 15" Fuch's and some more safety equipment and I'll be ready for some vintage racing! So I can run 7's and 8's in CPM? I still can't believe that O'Shaunessy and that guy in the 914/6 are running 1:32's!!!! That is impressive! What kind of horsepower are they getting out of those 2.5 liter's?

Thanks Tyson, It was great to finally meet you as well.
O'Shaughnessy and Fran Beck are running 2.0L. They are getting around 173 -175 HP at the rear wheels. My motor is putting out about 165. Both our motors our built by Frank, he offers 2 versions, Brians version $$$$ and My version $$. I think by the time I lighten the car up, I should be able to get into the 1:34s or maybe even high 1:33's. I would be HAPPY with that. I am not sure about the HP on the bigger motors but I think, The 3 2.5s and the 1 2.4 that run with us are putting out about 230+ HP. I could be off but I know my fathers 2.4 short stroke is putting out 220 HP. Hey if you know anyone that needs an early 901 transmission (NEW) with a locked diff, let me know. I have one. It was just built on Saturday. A, GA, KA, Q, V. I think you saw it in my trailer. Beers on Thursday???

Cool pics guys. I shot a few as well (paddock and pits mostly) but most of them were on the crappy still camera in my DV camcorder as all my batteries were dead in the regular digicam.
I have A, GA, KA, Q, V gears as well and they are significantly too short for big Willow ??? (It was set up for the Streets) I know that you guys were all running taller tires so that might explain it. I got a ruling from the "office" that my car would be eligible to run with VARA even though it's a 73, since it is a clone of a 70-72 factory 914-6. However, my engine's innards are somewhat of a mystery at this point so I will need to tear it down and build it either to 2.0S or 2.5 short-stroke specs to be anywhere near competitive. Are you guys mainly running the 15" wheels for gearing effect (shortening), or weight, or ? I have two sets of 16x7 Fuchs currently and one set of 15x7 Cookies, but if the 15x7 Fuchs are "the way to go" then I could try to do some horse trading...
