Vacuum Lines

Would anyone happen to have a few pics of their 2.0 914 I could reference for vacuum lines. I have looked at Daves diagram, but somethings just don't add up to me. Maybe a picture would help, thanks guys!

Tony

I stole this pic from a thread (I forget which one) on the other board. I think it's mostly correct.

Nice, clear picture. Note the comment about the MPS hose on the photo, it's in the wrong place, should go to the RHS of the photo and the firewall, where the MPS is mounted. The decel valve hoses are not shown, and the hose that goes to the charcoal cannister of the evap control system (from the sheet metal on the LHS of the motor) isn't shown. And it's PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) valve, not PVC (poly vinyl chloride?) valve.

BTW, is that a right-hand rubber elbow on the top of the PCV valve? My hose just goes on the valve directly. Hmm.

I don't have a decel vavle. It's a 74 2.0. Should I? That's part of my confusion. Thanks

Yup, you should. Someone probably removed it.

Do you sell one? Is it important? What does it do? It seemed to run ok, but it never has really idled correctly when cold, or semi-cold.

Lots of reasons for that to happen. Lean idle mixture, AAR not opening, timing wrong, valve clearance wrong, fuel pressure wrong, head temp sensor buggered up, clogged injectors, fouled or worn-out plugs, bad ignition wires, etc., etc., etc......

About the last thing I'd look at is the decel valve. Its purpose is to provide bypass air to the intake manifold during overrun conditions to promote combustion and reduce emissions.

Check my pages out for systematic approaches at solving idle problems.

We might carry them, but they're not in the catalog. 888-280-7799 is the number to call (during West Coast business hours!) and ask. I think I remember them being NLA, though.

Unless the fittings on the manifold were not capped, the lack of a Decel Valve should not affect the idle. Should only affect overrun (coasting at higher RPMs with the throttle closed) as Brad stated.

I don't car who posts that pic. I just made it cuz so many people are confused by the drawing DD made years ago. Yes Brad, these engines orginally had a rubber elbow at the PCV valve. Suckers usually cracked right away but thats how they did it so the next time you judge a concours event...........

That red hose just to the right of the PVC (PCV) hose, where is it coming from & where does it go? I printed this pic to help with my hook up of the new engine but can't figger it out!

Looks to be the hose going to the right-side head vent. You can't see the rest of it, but it would snake under the intake runner pipes over to the right-rear of the engine to the fitting on the head there.

Bruce, it starts at the flash valve, that funny looking 3 port thingy. Then it goes along the oil filler/breather stand, by the dizzy, under the intake tubes over to the right side head vent tube. Its a long sucker.
