'83SC for sale....$8000

My car:
Turbo fuchs with polished lips w/ new michelin pilot sports
-7 / 10 paint. Guards Red. Looks great, waxes up very nicely but has its share of chips etc.
-Carrera tensioners and pop-off valve
-Newish sachs HD clutch and components
-Pretty good documentation from previous owner
-PPI was done about a year or so ago (leak down and compression numbers available)
-New A/C compressor, lines, drier...etc, etc. Actually works pretty good, but won't freeze you on a hot summer day
-1st gear synchro works well...allows you to shift into first on a slow roll...need to be stopped when the tranny is stone cold. 2nd is slowish but no grinding...all others work well.
-Seine shift kit
-New Sport rear Bilsteins
-New HD Bilsteins strut inserts (not installed...bought as a set with the rears but the ones on the car currently seem fine)
-28 row brass cooler
-Have gathered parts for a rebuild including a set of low mileage P/C's (alusil...they CAN be reconditioned), rings, cone bearing, head studs, etc
other odds and ends that would go with the car....
-The semi-down side is 197,000 miles. Mostly CA highway driving accounts for the higher mileage. The PO liked to go on failry long road trips but was pretty anal about maintenance.

How does it run? Does it seem tired? The pictures look great. How's the rust situation? Thanks.

Absolutely NO rust on the car anywhere. In fact, the PO regularly washed out the area behind the door (in the wheel well) and the car is extremely clean underneath.

Does it seem tired? Truthfully, not that I can detect, but its been a while since I drove a really fresh 3.0l. It does have very close to 200K miles on it, but having said that, it will pull strongly to the yellow (I don't take it to redline). Funny, where it seems to "feel" the best at speed is when I'm doing about 85-90 mph...its surprising how the car lulls you into breaking the law.

Dustin, that seems like a very fair price for a well kept, original SC.

Kurt,
Thank you. The car really is super straight and totally rust free

Eric,
You can e-mail via the Pelican BBS (profile and hit "send an e-mail")

All,
Just to be totally above board about the car since I have been asked this question quite a few times since listed.
The car has a clean OK title, but the CARFAX shows a salvage title being issued in CA. Here are the facts:

1. The PO had the salvage title issued on the car after a VERY small heat exchanger fire (pinched a valve cover gasket which leaked). I have about 30 pictures of the incident, and it was limited to the very right rear of the engine compartment. Essentially, it burnt some wiring and the HE hoses before he put it out. Again, I have a 1" binder filled with pics and documentation to support the story.

2. The fire was extinguished with a 2lb dry chem kiddie fire extinguisher...which should indicate how small the fire actually was.

3. He had his son, who worked at a local Porsche dealer write up a CRAZY estimate (including a top-end rebuild on the affected side) to encourage the insurance company to total the car.

4. I have all the letters and documentation between the PO and the insurance company and if memory serves, the "estimate" from the Porsche dealer.

5. He bought the car back and had the Porsche dealer fix it (basically his son did the work for a LOT less money). Obviously, he only fixed the items that needed to be replaced, wiring, hoses, injectors and seals...etc. He opted to have a NEW OEM deck-lid installed at the time(not due to the fire)

6. He drove the car for over 2 years AFTER the incident before he decided to sell it so I felt confident he wasn't trying to unload a headache.

7. Every single electrical item on the car works, and there is absolutely no indication that the fire even happened vice a small amount of paint bubbling near the right engine mount. Not a spec of rust anywhere on the car. In fact the wheel wells are super clean as is the underside and suspension pieces.

I bought the car from an older, VERY nice ex-Navy man. In fact, when I bought it he had the oil changed, car detailed and DROVE it to me in KC from NorCAL...that's how confident he was in the car.

I make no excuses about the title history. It will make some folks uncomfortable, and I'm okay with that. Had the insurance company fixed the car, there would be NO trace that it even happened through the title history.

Before I bought this SC, I had looked at a LOT of dogs with "clean title" histories that were absolute junk with bad repairs, filler, rust, ratty interiors, etc. etc. In fact I saw one SC in the KC area that had almost the entire front pan and gas tank support replaced with what looked like home-made panels...clean title.

Again not trying to justify or excuse the car, but I just wanted to get the whole story out in the open so there would be no perception of trying to hide anything. I like to think of myself as an honorable guy, and I am truthful to the point that sometimes it costs me...but my personal integrity is worth more than a few dollars .

Sorry for the long response and thanks for listening.

After what I wrote, I realized that some folks may be on the fence. I have reduced my price, and it is firm...no lower offer will be accpeted, no trades. $8000 is the new price and will stand for one week. If it does not sell in that time I'll put it on Ebay and in the auto trader. Thanks!
