Finally decided to sell. My priorities have changed (kids).
Here's the deal. $30k PCA member owned, non-smoker. 1987 Guards Red 930 Just turned 59,000 miles. This car is a perfect setup for a Street/DE car. I will give the bad news (for me) first: The title. The car has a salvage title - the price reflects this. It was a theft recovery in Florida in the mid 90's but had no damage other than a window and radio. Car has been verified straight by authorized Porsche mechanic recommended by this board. The paint: The car was repainted to an extremely high standard by a previous owner. The car has the standard road induced paint/rock chips from being driven, but it still looks stunning and is 8/10 The records: I have full records back to 1999. The good news: I have put $6k in upgrades in the car, not including labor by a qualified Porsche mechanic. - Dassport Roll Bar (could use a repaint) - 17" Fikse FM10's - K27-7200 - TiAL Wastegate w/.8bar spring - Greddy Profec b Electronic Boost Controller - Kokeln Intercooler - B&B Exhaust and Headers - Yokohama ES 100s (about 700 miles on them) 245/40's and 275/45s - Bilsteins - 930s steering wheel - 2bar boost gauge w/telltale from NHS in place of clock - Porsche power Sport seats (vinyl with cloth inserts) Have original leather seats (but one will not recline.) The car is solid and running like a top. It is great on the street or the track. I have only done 3 DE weekends with it. My 4 year old and 2 year old have really limited my ability to get away for the weekends (its worth it!). I would like the car to find a good home to someone who will take care of it and enjoy it. I do not need to sell, but I hate to see the car not being used and would like a convertible for the short upstate summer months. The car is quick, and with the boost controller it can be very quick. 95% of the time I have it set at the .8 bar setting (including my DE events). But every now and then.... Again $30k. Now....for the photos (I have higher res versions available). ![]()

**crickets chirping**
Either that or it is the polite silence of pelicanites thinking I am asking too much for the car.

I think it might be the latter. Hey but what do I know. I'm still looking for my first 911.

It's the right COLOR, though!!! Resale-Red I think they call it...
Do THIS... have Porsche do their "1000 Point Inspection" and throw it on the website. That plus the Car-Fax screen print (with mileage this low) should reallly help. I missed a 92 C-2 Turbo ($25K price) B/C I was afraid of SALVAGE but as you know... Insurance companies will put a SALVAGE designation on brand new cars if they're stolen from the dealer's lot and returned 2 mos later! No matter what happened to the car... Check out http://wickedmotorworks.com/ for a nice list of cars with the same problem. You may still get a pretty decent price. There are crazy things like "watter getting into the ECU brain" when a car got caught in one of those great So. Cal rainstorms where you get 6" of standing water for a few minutes. Voila.... salvage. Remember too that most racecars would be considered salvage (immediately) due to the constant rebuilding, yet people pay $20-30k for them (and much, much more) all day long. Post the fix and the CarFax plus the Porsche factory inspection. No one should care unless they're in the immediate resale business. This is a very nice car for what it is.

don't get me wrong.. It looks gorgeous...you said it perfectly regarding the salvage issue. Some people tho just have a hang up on the issue.

This is a great place for you to start then....
Just TRY to find a 350hp car with the looks and prestige of this RED Porsche. You can always buy a WRX instead... I'd seriously go and do the PPI on the car and have a frame shop look at it. There's alomst 100% chance that there's nothing worth worrying about. Funnier still is that the ENGINE will cost more than a dent if there's a need for repair so given the mileage, you might as well take a leap of faith and have the $500 inspection done. You have to want a red turbo Porsche, though.... Tough decision!

Thanks for the input. I bought the car expecting to hold onto it for 10 years. The PPI was clean and the car was locally owned by a fellow PCA member so I had no concerns. But life changes and I need to move on. I know there is a hangup and will deal with it. Hakuna Matatta as my 4 year old loves to say. If it sells, fine. If not... I will continue to enjoy it.

I guess the one question I had and by the way its a beautiful car, is why the Ins. Co. would give it a salvage title with just a broken window and stereo theft? Usually there would have to be considerably more damage.

The car was not recovered in time and the insurance company wrote the car off as a total loss. When it was recovered, with the minimal damage, they could not give it a clean title. Once it is declared a loss, that's it.

Very true Wayne, and if you think you are going to keep it forever, be prepared when life throws you a curve a few years later!
I guess I should have put "Or best offer" in the description. OR I could take off all the upgrades, sell the car for far less and make some money on the Fikses, Intercooler, Turbo, Rollbar etc... We'll see. If I do not get any interest, then I will keep it, twin-plug it, and start having some real fun.

someone looking for "government agency approval" shouldn't be in the car purchase business if it's a used exotic.

I bought a salvage title Miata on Craiglist for 50% book value, drove it for three or four months, put about 7,000 miles on it, then sold it on ebay for 150% of what I paid for it. If you include the hardtop that I sold by itself, I doubled my money.

As I say.... and this always depends on the price paid.... "No one should car unless they're in the resale business..." because for $25k or so, someone will have a pretty amazing deal here... So what if you "only" get $17k out of it in another 5 years? Just try doing that with anything you can buy new for that price anywhere else... It won't be a 300hp red monster like this one... and you'll get Zero respect in the process. Documentation is essential in reselling any salvage title vehicle.

Does the AC work and is the roll bar removable? On the PPI did you get compression and leak down numbers?

Roll bar is a dassport roll bar and is removable. It uses the seatbelt mounting points so no drilling was required. I did have a compression and leakdown done and will dig up those numbers when I get home. But if I remember correctly compression was 125-130 across all cylinders and leakdown was less than 8% across all cylinders.

I'd be interested in some of the upgrades.. roll bar, intercooler, b&b's, boost controller.. any other performance upgrades..

Sorry about that Kurt. AC is working and blows as cold as these cars get with the stock units. I had it charged and will check the records when I get home as to when that was. I THINK I had it done in the spring.

I am looking at 930's now ( like I need another car ) , but the problem for me on this car or any car with the same situation regardless of price is the title.
I live in Georgia and they make it a PIA big time when you have any thing other than a " clear " title, you must get the car up to Atlanta and have it " inspected " then they decide if it has been "properly" rebuilt then they will issue you a title. It is actually easier in Georgia if the car is 1985 or older to simply present a " bill of sale " and they will register and issue a plate on the car without any problem, but they will not issue a title on it, if done that way. This is what I did on my 79SC, I still have the PO's Kentucky title from when I bought the car. Good luck with your sale, I hope it works out, Todd
