Mid-year 911 body compatibility

In the picture below, is the flare in RED the only difference bodywise for mid-year (1974-77) 911s from 1978-89?

Is the GREEN area in the picture the same for all 1974-89 911s?

More or less....the SCs also had rocker covers that covered the oil lines as well....at least on the passenger side.

I'm pretty sure the red comment is correct...

The green area under the door is probably the same too....the green area behind the rear wheels takes ( I *think*) a slightly altered form where it meets the wider "red" rear fender sweep.... the "red" influences go further down, as I recall

Anyone else ?

Basically, I'm trying to establish if post-1977 bumper extensions and rocker panels will fit pre-1977 cars.

Thanks!

As an aside comment...I can fit a regular 16x8 with a 245/45 tire on my 83, while a friend can BARELY fit a 951, 8 inch wheel with a 225/45 tire....yes, I know the wheel flare is larger, but I think there is more than JUST the flare....

That's my point... I want others to chime in and confirm.... that the rear-most bumper extensions are different for the reasons I mention. The rocker stuff should be the same.

Did your friend have to add a spacer to use the 951 8" wheel on his mid-year? Any idea how big?

Nope....bolt on. He did have to roll the fender lip and do a radical alignment adjustment....

Both of the green areas are different, between a normal and Carrera

When I put the RS flares on my '72 we were able to reshape the sills but had to cut and weld to match the bumpers because the RS bumper extensions were unobtainable at that time

I believe that a '74 -77 would work the same i.e uses the stock sills(w/ minor tweaking) w/ new bumper extensions

On mid year cars the bumper extensions and the rockers are different from sc and carrera stuff of the 78-89 cars. They will not bolt on without re sc/carrera fender flare 288 each side. P.s. If you need any of that stuff let me know I have what you need to pull it off

Bumper extensions are different on 74-77 911's and SC's, Carrera's like some of the other guys have said.

Are the rocker panels for a 1974-77 911 the same as the early ones since they have the same flare?

By the same Are you saying 65-73 and 74-77? They would fit but not the same look at all. Here is a picture of a 77 that has sc flares and rockers along with sc bumper extensions

Here you can see the '69 - '73 S sill slightly modified to accomodate the SC/Carrera flare on my '72. In the first picture the S trim hasn't been applied yet.

The rear lower bumper ends were heavily modified by notching , bending and welding in new sheet metal

The '74 - '89 sills are much deeper, a '74 Carrera
