XXX Drive-In Porsche Car Show May 14th
The XXX Drive-In is once again hosting a car show open to any and all models of Porsche automobiles. The exact details are being worked out as the day approaches, and I will keep everyone up to date via this thread as those details get ironed out. This is what I know so far:
Time and Location 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM XXX Drive-In 98 N.E. Gilman Blvd Issaquah. WA 98027 425-392-1266 ask for Jose Jr. Exit 17 off of I-90 about 20 minutes East of Seattle Sponsoring Hotel Holiday Inn 1801 12th Ave. N.W. Issaquah, WA 98027 425-392-6421 ask for Josh Huering and the XXX Car Show discount There is plenty of parking available for trailers for those of you trailering cars. The show itself Open to any and all Porsches, from street cars to race cars to show cars, and everything in between. The entry fee will be a paltry $10. All proceeds will be going to Life Enrichment Options, or LEO, a local charity that the XXX has been helping for some time with its car show proceeds. They provide housing, transportation, and the like for mentally handicapped adults in an effort to help them lead more independant lives. Like I said, we are still working out the actual details of the show. Classes, awards, and such are to be determined. I would very much like some input on what folks would like to see along these lines. I have never done anything like this before in my life, and time is quite obviously short, so any guidance that you folks can provide will be very much appreciated. We will also need some volunteers. Scooter92 is already hard at work on the flyers, which I will begin distributing and posting as soon as possible. We will need folks the day of the show to handle the various tasks involved with running it. Registration, parking, Black Audi wagon patrol, and the like. If anyone can help, please pm me through Pelican. We will also need trophies or plaques or something to give out to show class winners. If anyone has an "in" with some one that can provide these, please let me know soon. I think I may be too late for any really cool trophies, but we do need something. I'm hoping I can get the ball rolling this week so we have some chance of them being ready for the show. It might also be nice to provide some kind of "goodie bag" for participants at registration. Jose tells me this is kind of traditional or expected at car shows, so I'll go with that. I guess some kind of kit of cleaning/care products; he suggested getting ahold of Maguires or some one that likes to do these things for car shows as a means of advertising. If anyone has any contacts or leads along these lines, please let me know. Well, that's it for now. Stay tuned for more information. Once again, any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

I know a local photographer that shoots for some import mags, I'll see if he has any contacts or ideas of who to call for some goodies.
Classes could be easily broken up the same way we do on here, SWB, Early, Mid-Year, SC, Carrera, 964, 993, 996, Clones, Race Cars, etc. That may be too many depending on turnout. Last year I think there were 30-40 cars, but it was of course pouring down rain like mad. Definately a short timmeframe for something like this, but we can pull something together.

Has anyone considered asking PelicanParts for some sponsorship. they may have lots of extras for the goodie bag and in exchange a sticker in every bag and a banner onsite.

I have a resource to check on the trophy situation. They are http://www.djtrophy.com/ in Federal Way.
I work with one of them. The one to talk with is Jan Pool and to tell her that her husband Dale and his friend Mitch said to take real good care of you. Tell her that it really is a charity raising event that is wrapped around a car show. The glass and acrylics look pretty nice...Good Luck. He also said the May date would be no problem.

May 14th is Sunday and Mothers Day....yikes!!
I did not really look that close, I thought it was the weekend (Saturday) of Mothers Day, not the day of...2X yikes! Fathers Day, I would have stood a very good chance...Mothers Day, I won't even try to put a percentage on it.

Am I blind, or is there not a set time yet?
I have Mother's Day obligations as well, but not until later on (probably 6pm or so) and I think a lot more people could make it if we aimed for morning to early afternoon to leave dinnertime open.

Thanks for the lead on the trophies, madmmac. Federal Way is quite a ways from Lynnwood, so it would be difficult for me to coordinate this with them. Is this something you can help out with, once we decide what we want?
I just took a look at Scooter's flyer; it looks great. I'm hoping to have copies ready to bring to SOVREN on Saturday. The hours for the show are 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM, leaving us all plenty of time to deal with the mothers in our lives. Better yet, take 'em for a ride in your Porsche, on out to the show. So as far as classes in which to award trophies, I have seen one suggestion That would be to divide them up by model. I think for a couple of reasons, that might not be the best split. Mainly, the subtleties we all know so well that distinguish our favorite models will probably be lost on the general public. That. and I'm not sure all will be represented. Lastly, I think that is way too many classes. I'm thinking broader catagories, and having "peoples' choice" and "entrants' choice" or something like that. What do you think?

aAso what about:
Lightest Weight Early Car, SC, and Carrera/2/4 Completely Stock Most Riced ...er Most Kraut ...lol Best Mods or Customized Also will we be doing Concourse judging? Obviously people will be washing their cars, but if they want to be judged on concourse quailty extra effort will be spent. I know some of you have garage queeens under tarps. --Bill

We need a "dirtiest car" category. Drago and I are the odds on favorites.

How about at a "rough but has potential" award for fun. aka the beater award.
In further talking with a concours judge from the VW Waterwagons events, that may be a little more work than we are ready for this time around. Concours takes around 1 hour to properly judge each car. However a Garage Queen award might be a good alternative for cars that are kept very clean. It's nice to reward enthusiasts who take special care in their cars. --bill

Possible award category list:
People's Choice Entrants Choice Garage Queen Rough but has potential (could be the dirtiest car) Daily Driver Lightweight (broken into early, SC, Carrera/2/4, water-cooled, 914) Must have weight cert on hand. Race Inspired (for dedicated track cars) I think that creates a good broad range of categories with out getting too granular. Thoughts? Flames? --bill

I like how you split SC and Carrera instead of lumping them, any reason for that? Car too heavy? *poke*
