What do you think?

I purchased this engine from a member of this forum (name witheld at this point) and was told engine had 57,000 miles on it and a "top end job" 1,000 miles ago. What are your impressions?

I was told it was pulled 6 months before I bought it, I have had it sitting 5 months and am now ready to install when I pulled tin off to "clean it up" and found this. The exhaust bolts between the heat exchangers and muffler had to be cut off they were so rusty. NO FIRE just gunk

If what you can see looks like that, I would be very afraid of what you can't see!

Sure would have loved that here is e-mail describing engine

"Yes the motor was just serviced but it has been out of the car for about 6 months so when you start there will be some white smoke from the oil that has gotten by the rings but that will go away as you drive it. As you can see by the pictures we were building a 73 RS clone and our customer was going to use the 2.4 but at the last minute he found a 3.6 and made this thing into a rocker ship. The 57K was the miles on the car and the motor it only has about a 1000 on the top end and 5000 miles on the rebuilt pump. I'll try Love Field but if not DFW. I have 911 oil tanks and some fittings for the oil lines and new oil filters Make it $xxxx.00 for everything and I'll put that with motor then you have all the parts except for the lines themself to make this thing run. Let me know."

so what do I do now??

What did the seller say? Have you contacted them?

If no reply from the seller... Post their name.

If I sold something to someone on this site I sure wouldn't mind standing behind it.

find someone good to build your motor! what the hell you only live once...........do it right, exactly what you want and enjoy it. HANG THE EXPENSE! weigh out how many times you have broken down in your life due to mechanical anything happening. its worth spending the bucks! my next years new years rez is to find 3.2 motor, tear apart myself (w/spiritual guru next to me) and hopefully put back together by myself..........balanced and blue printed perfect to PCA/SCCA specs. looking at $10 grand at least and thats stock! if you dont have the bucks now(who does?) just buy cheaper beer, dont go anywhere or do anything except work on car and in no time you will have saved the bucks to do it right! or try this forum or 20th street auto parts here in phx.az. they have alot of motors there. or send it to patrick motorsports. thats where mine is at getting cash infusion/transfusion! i am tickled pink how well they treat me and the quality of work is second to none! and they build some fast ****! good luck w/this dont get bummed.........." make lemons into lemonade"! and then go do some donuts in the guys front yard a la DARRYL WALTRIP and show him your appreciation!

The pics do not tell a good story. MO is that I'd stop here and get your money back. He should pay shipping or pick-up directly.

It's deals like this that make it more and more difficult to buy on-line.

I talked to the son and again he said that he remembered the engine and yes it had a "top end job" 1000 miles ago and had only been sitting for 6 months. I still think I am being told a little story. I have sent an e-mail to dad requesting this matter be taken care of when he returns even if it means returning the engine. I will keep everyone posted and if matter isn't resolved to my satisfaction I will let you know his name and his company
