Not many sign ups so far...that means lots of wide open track. Anyone thinking of coming out with us?

Me too. It should be legal next week. I still have to get used to driving it around a bit. It going on the dyno next week and Steve W is going to program a chip. If I get 240HP I will be very happy!

Sung should be there as well. His bank just opened so I think he needs some down time.

Did I mention all the new WEVO $hit I just got! I just hope that I dont roll the car.

Can a complete track novice (as in ZERO track or Autocross time) participate? I noticed that there is a "beginning" group.

I am interested. I'd bring the 996 (my '84 is a Cab).

Yes. At a typical ACRA event there might be a dozen drivers in the yellow group who have never been on the track before. There's a classroom session for this group before they go on the track, and their first session is a 'ducks in a row' exercise, where they drive their car behind an instructor to get a handle on the basic driving line.

However -- and this is a big 'however' -- the instruction with ACRA is not as structured as you'd find with the POC or NASA. With those groups, you'd have to have an instructor with you in your car for most of your first day. You'd be able to drive alone when he signs off on you. ACRA doesn't take as strict an approach. After the ducks in a row session, you're allowed to drive alone in the yellow group without an instructor -- although you're encouraged to seek out one of the more-experienced drivers who have volunteered to help instruct, and have them ride along with you. Some guys also have the instructors drive their cars with them in the passenger seat for a few laps to see what the car is capable of when pushed just a little more by someone who is very familiar with the track.

This less-structured approach isn't for everyone. There's a lot to be said for the POC's well-tested 'baby steps' approach. But the flipside is that some guys don't want that much instruction, and are happier getting input on their driving in smaller doses.

With Jack's blessing you're welcome to hop in my car for some track reconnaissance.
I'm also a PCA AX/DE/TT instructor.
But more importantly I'm an ATC.
As you know I have decades of experience telling pilots where to go.

PS Ask your weekend canyon carvers to join you at the track, just so that pack can keep up with your new skills next canyon run.

Jack and Ted, thanks for taking the time to answer my question. Ted, I may take you up on your offer and Jack, I'd be pleased if you'd be willing to drive my car while I sat next to you and observed.

Ted, are you LA Center or SoCal? I know you told me a couple of years ago but I can't recall.

Hey all, just wanted to subscribe to the thread.

Scott just turned me on to this. Sounds like a great day. If I can get my (new to me) 3.0 stuffed into my 74' I sure would like to attend.

Ted, Eagle RJ's mostly North/South. In fact, if you're around tomorrow, I'll be EGF 191, 141, 186, 164, and arriving in SAN as 181 at about 2:55 PM. If you hear those flights come up, say Hi because that'll be me.

I'm guessing SANT is SoCal Approach, based in San Diego, is that right?

SAN Tower since 82, 118.3, 123.9 and 125.9 home of the single runway.
All the RJ pilots seem pretty happy.
Ask for MG (me) if you get delayed, I'll try something.

Of course, SAN Tower (Duh). For some reason I thought you were with one of the radar facilities.

I'll be there tomorrow. I'll try to remeber to say Hi.
