15w-50 freaking me out..another oil thread
Okay guys, the car is idling 2.75 to 3bar and running 4.5 and sometimes at 5. im just not used to seeing values THAT high, its freaking me out. the cars oil schedule was a-okay on 5-30 but i just didnt get a good feeling about that oil since its not recommended anywhere .
that being said... how about 10-40? i feel like that would be a good in between. it would be more than 5/30 not quiet 15-50, and its listed in the owners manual under fuel efficient oils (approved)... thoughts??? open to any comments and ideas....

I use 10-40 full synthetic high mileage. I think you're worring too much about your oil pressure.
My car runs awesome. Never any problems over the past 3 years with it and I am running the same oil pressure numbers you are. My oil stays clean and when I did some work on my fuel rail I looked in the cylinder with a flashlight the best I could. Nice shiny pistons. The exhust is good, the car runs well. I wouldn't worry about those numbers. Mine has been like that for the past 15,000 miles and it is running MUCH better than when I got it.

I'll trade you! Those are the numbers I am trying to get out of my engine. That is as good as you can get. I run 15-50 or 10-60 full synthetic. At those pressures you should be good for at least another 200K miles.

i think your numbers are good also but i do prefer 10/40 in summer and 5/30 in winter. it sounds like your engine is nice and snug. it would concern me if i was pushing 5 bar of oil pressure regularly but i have absolutely no real basis for that concern, i would just be thinkin about blowing out a seal or something.

you guys rock, thanks for all the input, it helps me sleep better, i think i'll switch to 10-40 and leave it at that, before i did it, i wanted to see if others were running it as well. Your input is much appreciated.

Normal.
If it's very, very hot outside, you'll see it drop to about 1.5-2 bar at idle when it thins out, but the #'s you're seeing are nothing to fret about.

If it makes you feel any better, my mechanic, who used to own several 951's and has gone through mine extensively was cool with me running 15-50 synthetic for the summer. I am running exactly the same oil pressures as you describe.

Ditto to the others. Same exact readings you get with M1 15-50W. On rings and a bottom end with 155K. It does get down to 1.5-2 bar or so after a track session.
I am happy with the numbers.

Some info to make you feel better:
"When your car is cold, the oil is thicker. Normally this means when you first start your car the oil pressure will be 5 bar at idle. After warming up the car (typically, it takes approximately twice as long for the oil to reach operating range as your coolant does) it should drop to between 2 and 3 bar at idle. You don't need to worry unless it drops to or below 1 bar. If the oil pressure sender fails, typically the oil pressure will peg at 5 bar as soon as you turn the key to the on position." This is from: http://www.connact.com/~kgross/FAQ/944faq08.html

My 951 runs 15w50 and my oil pressure sits at 3.0 bar at idle and 4.5+ bar at speed. Your numbers sound great. I used to have an NA and ran 15w50 in that too, same oil pressure readings.
Looks like you can sit back and enjoy the knowledge that your engine is in good shape.
