The nest #3
did a little more work today and as usual more suprises.. Aren't 73 t's supposed to have a dual inlet muffler?.. My car has an O2 sensor on it (disconnected) from the looks of it it's got an exhaust system from a couple years newer than the car. The exhaust for the right side runs over to the right side and into a second large pipe before going into the muffler just under the exit to the muffler. It's that a post 75 exhaust system?
More info and pics to come tomarrow

Sounds like an SC exhaust system. Used SC exhaust systems are usually cheaper than the more performance desirable early tuned exhaust like the type your car originally came with.

The later exhaust system, the heat exchangers exit was to the front of the car. There was a crossover pipe from the passenger side to the cat, and the crossover and the driverrs side HE bolt into the cat, which runs outboard of the engine into the muffler.
When you take the pictures, make a note of the engine number, it should be to the right at the base of the fan. Find it, and post it so someone can look it up for you. You may find the engine is not what you expect. Tom |

According to the Red Book: 6120840 is a type 911/51 a US spec MFI 911T engine built between Aug 71 and Jul 73. The pix also show a 7R case which is a great break for you - its the best mag case. Check for the 911/51 number beside and below the right side of the fan, like Tom said.
EDIT: on second look the case number maybe a 3R...not that there's anything wrong with that - is it 3R or 7R? What is the VIN on the car ?

Engine 6190553 is 1969 type 901/03 ( a 2.0L) US spec 911T built between Aug 68 and Jul 69. The Red book says only 343 of the 901/03 were built. So, it may be valuable, I don't know. Maybe the historic, concours guys could let you (and all of us know).
Hope this helps. Its been fun following your adventure!! Keep us posted.

interesting..that's about what I thought the engine that's in the car is, but I'm a little suprised at the extra block. It was supposedly also pulled from a 73 T. Who knows with this car. it's such a hodge podge of parts from different years.
I'm gettin' closer to bein' ready to drop the engine. The only trouble I've run into so far is the second wire to the starter (the one above the main wire) won't come off. I can't see it but it doens't feel like a nut and it doens't come out like it's a blade connector. The other small problem I"ve got is that the clutch cable is pressed against the exhaust crosover pipe. I should be able to get this one. It looks like it's flexible, SO it shouldn't be too bad The driveshafts were no problem at all. I think I've got all the electrical connections labeled and pulled. I've got the fuel lines pulled and labeled. The last thing I've got to disconnect is the throttle linkage, the reverse light and maybe something else. I've gotta triple check my books. I might be dropping the engine tomarow if all goes well. I'll keep you all informed.

here's where I'm at currently... sorry for the bad pics
it's a 3R case with tranny #7332985 The VIN # is 9113100816 I was told it's not the original engine but who knows at this point. I bought this thing with very little info. The only documentation I got with it was a title and some vauge information from the PO. I'll post the tranny # for my spare one when I can dig it out later today ![]() ![]() ![]()

A 72' with a 7R case. That's great. Most 72's came with the 5R case. I've got two and they're both 5R's. The 2.4T 7R cases are the best starting point for a mag case motor rebuild. Hopefully, there are no corrosion issues in the case.

Bobby, I misread the case number in the pix earlier this am - Tim's confirmed that it is a 3R.
Tim, with your VIN 9113100816 - your car is a F Series 73T US spec car - the engine in the car is in 72 series (from red book): 1973 (F series) chassis no- 9113100001 (yours=0816) to 01252 equals eng no- 6130001 to 6131926 1972 (E series) chassis no- 9112100001 to 9112102931 equals eng no- 6120001 (yours=0841) to 6124478 ps- I see you're already using the traditional engine lid struts - the early ones were all wood of course. The rare ones are made from Black Forest Ash and drilled for lightness....

Interesting.. so it's got a 72T engine? I've removed all that I need to to drop the engine except the secondary starter wire and the clutch cable. Any Idea's?
I've just got to engineer a cart to haul it out on and find some time with dad to pull it. Any idea's other than a furniture cart? I'll be pulling the engine and tranny at the same time. hehe yep yep I've got the old style engine struts.. I'll be "upgrading" once my PP order comes in.
