'01 Audi a6

I found an '01 A6 that supposedly needs the "anti-theft system" reset because the battery has been dead for a couple of months. First :does that even make sense?
second : how would you reset it if that is all it needs?

I'm not quit that nieve, I'm sure it would need something else to be up and running but it looks pretty good and he is only asking $1500. and I could probably get it for a little less. Does it sound like something I should investigate further?

The only anti-theft reset that should be required would be to key in the proper radio code and possible "sync" the key-fob remotes. I don't think the alarm system cares if the battery has been dead a while if you unlock with the proper keys.

This sounds fishy - an '01 A6 should be bringing more money than that unless totally trashed. You might ask to see title and/or run a car fax. At very least the "owner" may be trying to hide some nasty fault codes...

Thats what I was thinking. My '99 volvo had a dead battery for a while and the only thing was the radio like you said. So I couldn't see why the audi wouldn't run but I just wanted some conformation. Thanks

Before going to far, first thing is the light with a key flashing on the dash when you try to start? If yes then it needs to go to dealer for a program reflash. If no then you should check the starter interlock switch. I usually take the cover off the relay and press the contact closed and see if the car starts. If it does replace the interlock relay, I would recommend changing both the interlock and fuel pump relay at the same time.

Thanks Markobrow for the tips but I never could get the guy to call me so either it is a scam or he sold it quick, And since I sent him a mess. like 30 min. after his add on craigslist posted and he never called me then I'm thinking scam. so I never actually got to see it in person.

P.S. I like your stable..
