RS6 Alternator/Belt failure?
While driving recently, alarms went off and voltage started dropping rapidly. Thought the battery had shorted out or something similar, but replacing the battery made it clear that the alternator was not working. I am assuming a drive belt broke and fell off, but water temp didn't seem to climb, so am questioning the belt failing as alternator and water pump are often on the same belt. Have not had time to jack the car up and look underneath, and can't see anything from above. Battery and Engine Check lights are both on after battery replacement. Any suggestions of likely culprits? Thanks!

I'd first plug into the OBDII and read what fault code is triggering your CEL. This will help you with your diagnosis. Definitely inspect the belt, but I'd also be curious if your alternator might be faulty. I'd test it to rule it out as a culprit. When the vehicle is running I believe it should show around 14.4 volts. You can test it with a multimeter. Report back after you read the fault code, check the belt and test the alternator.
