Pat McManus and Carl Kasell.
i dont think most of you know of them.
McManus was a humorist outdoor writer. he wrote about and made fun of stuff in the outdoors. i read his stuff in my early teens. flashlight under the covers type of thing. he had the best one liners..for example:
“Give a man enough rope and it still will come out 6 inches too short. That is the nature of rope, if not the nature of man."
i can probably credit him with my knife fetish..he had a knife story that was effen classic.
Carl Kasell. i ONLY knew of him as the voice on WAIT WAIT DONT TELL..that NPR radio quiz game show. super funny. he would come out of nowhere and drop a line that would make you laugh so hard. Saturday morning, i would love hearing him announce the show's host.."heeeerrrrrrreeeessss Peeeeeettttter Seagal"
i think i remember him winning some broadcast award the same year Howard Stern won it..Howard said, "who's Karl Kasell?" hahah..i didnt know of him as a serious news broadcaster. he hired Katie Kuric as an intern. (i learned this when she called in to congratulate him on his retirement..the president called as well)
he is a funny old guy. i always told myself..when i get old, i want to be more like Kasell and less like the Gran Torino dude.
this will be a short thread..just wanted to mention them as we do all the people we admire when they pass. even it if is only ME.
