I can not believe that no one has every replaced the shift boot and knob in a 944!

If there are no pics can any one tell me if the lip of the rubber boot (Which is under the leather boot) snaps onto the metal ring below the plastic counsol or does it snap onto the plastic ring which snaps onto the plastic counsol under the carpeting?
