I grew up eating various types of sandwiches from grilled cheese to what my family called hoagies which are basically just subs. I love a good sandwich. Cuban sandwich, dagwood sandwich, grilled cheese (with fancy bread and cheese or just plain old bread and cheese), sandwich that is cold, hot, pressed.

I've always loved a good meatball sandwich, and we've got this place which is the best meatball sandwich that I've ever had.

they bake their own sourdough. you order a sandwich, some dude with oven mitts will go and pull out a piping hot sandwich loaf; if your timing is good. if it isnt, they are still hot but under a blanket. he pulls it out and slices it in front of your face. the smell, the sounds.. then special sauce, local cheese (swiss for me), the usual suspects in term of veggies.., today i got 50% turkey 50% pastrami. spicy mustard.

the bread heats up the rest of the ingredients. it is nuts how good it is for a simple sandwich..my east bay shop is more gourmet. marinated tomatoes, eggplant..etc. it is unrivaled.
