I think you could sell it for what you paid so, you did not pay to much for it.
The question is where do you go from here with out going upside down $ in this?
Project cars or usually a sure way to have more in something than it is worth, so if you do anything to this car you will most likely have more into it than it is worth.
But how do you measure fun? If you enjoy working car bodies you could get rid of those awful rear LWB flared fenders that do not center the rear wheels and improve the car considerably. You will still spend a lot of money on parts, wheels, bumpers, trim, etc. But that is a lot of fun, I have done it.
If you want a finished 912 buy one and sell this, if you want a project, keep it. Or live with it the way it is to stay whole money wise.
