Gun legally purchased in Illinois in, I believe, 2011. He was arrested in July of 2017 for entering a restricted area around the White House. As a result, his permit to posses weapons, and the weapon itself, was taken from him by authorities. Sometime between that time and now, the weapons were released to a family member, by law, and he, obviously, was able to access them. The system, apparently, worked as it was designed. Perhaps the design needs to be altered.
