Very peaty scotches such as those made on the coast or an island like Islay (Laphroaig is an Islay scotch) are peaty. No offense to fans of peaty scotch, but it tastes like burning tires mixed with turpentine. Respectfully, I have not yet developed a taste for the peaty scotches.

Highland scotches are WAY different. Very smooth. Two days ago I picked up a bottle of Aberlour and it's tasty but otherwise unremarkable. Under $50. Aged twice, the second time in used sherry casks. Macallans is one of my favorites. Mind, you, these are not very expensive scotches.

Age is beauty, with scotches (and men ). So.....find out (if you can) whether he like the peaty scotches, and then get him the oldest bottle you can afford.
What is a UNION GUY doing drinking $50 a bottle Scotch. YOU CAN NOT AFFORD SUCH LUXURY's. Not when the average American family has $4190.00 in Savings..

Here you go a nice Clan MacGregor for $13.99 for 1.75L...go knock yourself out..why you can even invite some friends over.

And you wonder why America is so fked up , when Americans have such pretensions to luxury.
