Don't most credit cards have travel insurance built in? Mine do.
Since my wife is not a US citizen (she's Thai) she usually has to buy travel health insurance to get her Schengen (european union) visa. It's about $50 so I go ahead and buy for myself too. Then you don't worry about racking up an insurance bill or worse yet, having to get flown home.
