My wife has a 2016 X3 M Sport. She loves it. It has some rattles and quirky bits but as long as she likes it, that's all I need. The M Sport offers much better seats etc and I think it's a worthwhile option. Hers has the turbo 4-cyl. Fine on power, fuel economy etc but I recently drove a 6-cyl and it's a much smoother car, and quieter too. Personally, I'd find an M-sport 6-cyl. Although if you were a DIY maintenance person, go with the 4 cyl as there is tons of room in the engine bay and it looks like a motor...no camouflage with a bunch of plastic etc.
I was pushing for an X5 diesel but she wanted the size of the X3. But is still think the diesels are a great rig and maybe a bit of a bargain. Again, go with the M-sport for the seats!
