In this era of perpetual distractions, the parents probably haven't done much parenting, and either let the TV, other freinds, or video games be the kid's nanny.
I used to think that maybe the parents have come from a rough upbringing, and are now compensating by letting their kids do anything they want, trying to be more of a freind, than a gaurdian.
