Live and learn is easy. It's getting over that sick feeling in one's stomach. Take a look at the fuel rail. If the two canisters attached to it are on the back end then it's the early 83 unit. If the canisters are at each end then it's the later fuel rail.

These can develope 60 psi of fuel pressure if the regulator fails. You can use clamps on the return line but you have to use compression fittings on the feed line.

Both lines come up the fire wall right next to the brake booster.
