I've mentored a HS robotics team, over 12 years, let go reluctantly a few years ago.
Times have changed. In the scenario you described, It's too easy for one to claim injury (real or imagined) If they are at your house, your tools, job, your insurance may not cover you. We were also trained NEVER to be alone with a student that is not your own child........
I applaud you for wanting to give back. It's rewarding.
