I have been using flat screen TV sets for monitors for several years now. Started with 24 inch, then a 36 inch and now a 48 inch. Helps the old eyes see things way better. The last two have been Vizio and I always make sure on the outside of the box the specs say for use on computers. I have a high end NVidia graphics card and it makes the set have any resolution the card will output. Oh yeah it was on special at Walmart at $249. It would split the screen if I wanted to but since I have been retired for 8 years now.....no need for that.
