I am a single stage convert, after doing some wild A$$ show quality paint jobs in Pearls, Candy's, Metal Flakes, etc.. A metallic is really easy to lay down! When you get into more opaque colors (whites, yellows, medium or light reds, etc..), those get harder. Or dark colors like blacks, etc..
I bought two guns, a cheaper $150 gun for my primer and a near $450 gun for the finish coats. I have over 50 years of experience with airbrushes, and 30 with painting the real ones, and I have did the last bunch in the garage, in the morning, no wind, cleaning the garage thoroughly, with these single staged paints (catalyst mixed). I am thoroughly comfortable with driving them anytime, and I don't even worry any longer when they get dinged or dented, or scratched. The cars get compliments, and I am not broke!
