If you're going to carry a rifle, carry a rifle round. The folding Keltec .223, SU-16C would be nearly ideal. 4.7 lbs. Pistol rounds get a small boost in a longer barrel, but they are not rifle rounds.

I've looked into changing out my 1894 in 30-30 to one in .357 Magnum. But the round is paltry compared to most rifle rounds. .44 Magnum would be a good choice for a "shared" caliber, but I do not want to stock more ammo calibers.
