I think they were anodized aluminum. Chrome is not going to look quite right, though you are putting it on a Carrera, so it doesn't have to be in the original style. All purist rules are out at that point.

I'm a fan of doing whatever you like so I say go for it. Removing it without bending it is possible but take it slow.

I believe Sean at Tru6 can 'restore' your black trim to the popper anodized aluminum finish if you do want to go that route. You can also purchase a new set of front and back trim though it's somewhat pricey.

Careful now, if you go bright trim, you might fall down the slippery slope of a backdate. :-)
